[3 years of the "new house" at the Psychiatric Clinic of the Medical School Hospital in Olomouc].

The author present an account on changes in the operation of the psychiatric clinic made possible by acquisition of a new building for the Clinic in 1989. This made it possible to improve conditions for patients, staff and teaching. The author discusses experience assembled during the first three years of operation of the "New House".

Neurotransplantation--a new method of treatment in psychiatry?

The authors present the results of their catamnestic evaluation of the first few patients (diagnosis of schizophreny; atrophic process posttraumatic and Alzheimer's dementia), in whom implantation of neuronal embryonal tissue into the brain was performed in the last few years. They warn against excessive publicity and optimistic appraisal by neurosurgeons because psychiatric examinations after some time fail to confirm the success of the operation.

Prescription of psychopharmaca in common psychiatric diagnoses (discussion on the results of an anonymous survey).

The authors have made an anonymous survey among Czechoslovak psychiatrists on the prescription of psychopharmaca in select psychiatric diagnoses. The first place is occupied by haloperidol, perfenazin and chlorpromazine in hallucinatory paranoid syndromes, amitriptyline and clomipramine in depressions. The authors also wanted to find out which drugs were regarded as unsuitable by each psychiatrist.

[Disturbances in psychosocial adaptation in old age].

The transition to old age is one of the critical phases of life. The adaptation of old people in mass institutions, especially in hospitals and old people's homes, is becoming problematical. We attempted an evaluation of each element of adaptation of old people housed in old people's homes by means of the GBS scale over a period of the first six months after admission.

[Antonín Marek--his importance for the beginning of new Czech psychiatric and psychological terminology].

The author recalls a representative of the generation of the Czech National Revial, Antonín Marek (1785-1877). He mentions some Czech words which are important also for psychiatry, which created by A. Marek or which he introduced into modern Czech.

[Adaptation problems in old age].

The authors summarize available literature concerned with some problems of aging and old age. Attention is devoted in particular to factors which have an adverse impact on this process such as loss of the partner, retirement, disintegration of the home, reduced activity, etc. Some typical diseases of old age are mentioned.

[The "open door" system in psychiatry].

The authors describe the situation which developed as a result of construction work, when the grounds of the psychiatric clinic were open. Before that time there were during a five-year period on average 2.2 escapes per year; despite an unaltered regime of the patients and unaltered supervision there was not a single escape.

Treatment of some cases in child psychiatry with incisive neuroleptic drugs.

The authors report on the administration of incisive neuroleptic drugs in child psychiatry. The drugs were applied in schizophreny, obsessive syndromes and especially in tics. They administered pimozide, haloperidol, penfluridol and isofloxythepin.
