Introduction: Alcohol withdrawal syndrome (AWS) is a common condition prompting emergency department (ED) presentation. However, there are limited recent, large-scale, robust data available on the incidence, admission, and medical treatment of AWS in the ED.
Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of ED presentations for AWS from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2023, using Epic Cosmos.
Objectives: To compare end-to-side (ES) and side-to-side (SS) jejunocecostomy (JC) in healthy horses.
Study Design: Experimental study in vivo.
Animals: A total of 14 healthy adult horses underwent ventral midline celiotomy, a resection, and either an ES (n = 7) or stapled SS (n = 7) JC.
Purpose: Immediate initiation of antiretroviral treatment following HIV infection is a cornerstone of the current HIV 'universal test and treat' approach. Delayed progress along the HIV care continuum is thus framed as a major stumbling block in effective HIV epidemic control. Through examining the HIV care trajectories of people diagnosed with HIV in Shinyanga Region, Tanzania, we offer a critical interrogation of the HIV care continuum.

However, as management strategies have evolved, there is a critical need for current data on incidence, admission rates, and medical management of DVT in the ED setting.
Methods: This cross-sectional study analyzed ED presentations for DVT from 2016-2023 using the Cosmos database.
Introduction: Diverticulitis is a common reason for presentation to the Emergency Department (ED). However, as imaging options, risk stratification tools, and antibiotic options have expanded, there is a need for current data on the changes in incidence, computed tomography (CT) performance, antibiotic usage, and disposition over time.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of ED patients with a diagnosis of diverticulitis from 1/1/2016 to 12/31/2023.
Introduction: Heart failure (HF) is a common condition prompting presentation to the Emergency Department (ED) and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. However, there is limited recent large-scale, robust data available on the admission rates, evaluation, and treatment of HF in the ED setting.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of ED presentations for HF from 1/1/2016 to 12/31/2023 using the Epic Cosmos database.
Robust advancements in clinical treatment of people living with HIV (PLHIV) have resulted in the current "treatment as prevention" strategy: the inability to transmit the virus when it is undetectable. Nevertheless, disclosure within marital relationships remains important to adhere optimally to treatment and further limit transmission in the era of treat-all. Disclosure, however, can have serious social repercussions, particularly for women.

However, as diagnostic imaging, risk stratification tools, and treatment have evolved over time, there is a critical need for current data on the incidence, testing, admission rates, and medical management of PE in the ED setting.
Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of ED patients with PE diagnoses from 1/1/2016 to 12/31/2023 using the Epic Cosmos national database.
How people speak of hunger extends beyond statements about food adequacy; people's remarks may reflect experiences of poverty and feelings of vulnerability, and may be used to request help. In this article, we build on the idea of idioms of distress to conceptualize hunger talk as expressing more than an empty belly. We draw on ethnographic data gathered in two settings in South Africa: one a peri-urban area under traditional jurisdiction in the Eastern Cape Province; the other an inner-city suburb of the largest city, Johannesburg, in Gauteng.

The cEEG traces can be collected for further processing and calculation of relevant metrics not already provided. Depending on the device settings during acquisition, the acquired traces may be distorted by max/min value cropping or high digitization errors.

This study aimed to demonstrate the efficacy of INSPIRE against spontaneous melanoma in standing, awake horses.
Methods: A custom applicator and a pulse generation system were utilized in a pilot study to treat horses presenting with spontaneous melanoma.
The open burning of mixed wastes that contain plastics is a widespread practice across the globe, resulting in the release of gas emissions and ash residues that have toxic effects on human and environmental health. Although plastic pollution is under scrutiny as a pressing environmental concern, it is often conflated with plastic litter, and the contribution of the open burning of plastics to air, soil, and water pollution gets overlooked. Therefore, campaigns to raise awareness about plastic pollution often end up leading to increased open burning.

Gender Dysphoria and its conceptual precursors have always been moving targets: moving due to research, policy, care practices and activism both within and outside of medicine. This raises the question of what Gender Dysphoria is exactly.

For instance, some functional and structural changes in several brain regions have been observed from adolescence in subjects that display either high vulnerability to depressive symptoms or subthreshold depression. For instance, adolescents with depressive disorder have been shown to exhibit hyperactivity in hippocampus, amygdala and prefrontal cortex as well as volume reductions in hippocampus and amygdala (prefrontal cortex showing more variable results).

We present a mouse methylation atlas as a rich reference resource of 1,239 DNA samples encompassing distinct tissues, strains, ages, sexes, and pathologies. We describe applications for comparative epigenomics, genomic imprinting, epigenetic inhibitors, patient-derived xenograft assessment, backcross tracing, and epigenetic clocks.

Unfortunately, the "readiness" of this data for robust artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) applications is low and presents a significant barrier for advancement. Harmonization standards and tools to implement those standards are key to overcoming existing barriers.

Males aged 10-19 years account for more than two-thirds of those circumcised since 2008 when internationally funded circumcision campaigns began in Eswatini. The ethical guidelines of these programmes conform to international standards, requiring that informed consent or assent be obtained prior to surgery.

We report here the Variation Representation Specification (VRS, pronounced "verse"), an extensible framework for the computable representation of variation that complements contemporary human-readable and flat file standards for genomic variation representation. VRS provides semantically precise representations of variation and leverages this design to enable federated identification of biomolecular variation with globally consistent and unique computed identifiers.

The Precision Care in Cardiac Arrest: Influence of Cooling duration on Efficacy in Cardiac Arrest Patients (PRECICECAP) study will apply machine learning to high-resolution, multimodality data collected from patients resuscitated from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. We aim to discover novel biomarker signatures to predict the optimal duration of therapeutic hypothermia and 90-day functional outcomes.
