Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate the potential causal relationship between autoimmune diseases, including systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, multiple sclerosis, and Type 1 diabetes, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD). By utilizing the two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) approach, we endeavor to address this complex medical issue.
Methods: Genome-wide association study (GWAS) data for autoimmune diseases and AMD were obtained from the IEU Open GWAS database and the FinnGen consortium.
