Introduction: the diversity of Plasmodium falciparum genotypes affects the dynamics of malaria transmission and is thought to be one of the factors hampering malaria control efforts. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between Plasmodium falciparum genetic diversity and chloroquine and sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine resistance markers in malaria endemic areas of Burkina Faso.

Methods: in a cross-sectional study, populations residing in Nouna health district were randomly recruited.

The relationship between malaria infection and malnutrition is complex. Using data from a randomized controlled trial of 450 children 0-5 years of age in Burkina Faso, we examined the effect of malaria infection on short-term changes in anthropometric measures, the effect of malnutrition on malaria infection, and whether age modified the effect of baseline anthropometric measures on malaria infection. Malaria infection, assessed by blood smear microscopy and weight, height, mid-upper arm circumference, height-for-age z-score, weight-for-age z-score, and weight-for-height z-score were measured at three time points: baseline, 2 weeks, and 6 months.

Background: Azithromycin has recently been shown to reduce all-cause childhood mortality in sub-Saharan Africa. One potential mechanism of this effect is via the anti-malarial effect of azithromycin, which may help treat or prevent malaria infection. This study evaluated short- and longer-term effects of azithromycin on malaria outcomes in children.

Objectives: To evaluate the impact of anti-malaria biological larviciding with Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis on non-primary target mosquito species in a rural African setting.

Methods: A total of 127 villages were distributed in three study arms, each with different larviciding options in public spaces: i) no treatment, ii) full or iii) guided intervention. Geographically close villages were grouped in clusters to avoid contamination between treated and untreated villages.
