Article Synopsis
  • Acute spinal cord infarction (SCI) is a rare condition that is challenging to diagnose due to variable clinical features and limitations in MRI detection, prompting researchers to evaluate patient characteristics and diagnostic methods.
  • A systematic review of studies found that early intervention, particularly spinal surgical decompression, is linked to better patient outcomes, with a significant percentage benefiting from surgery compared to medical treatments alone.
  • The study highlighted that the T2 diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) technique has moderate accuracy in identifying hyperacute spinal cord injuries, specifically during the critical first 6 hours after onset.

Background: Extensive spinal epidural abscess (ESEA) is a rare clinical entity subject to delayed diagnosis, which can be explained by the extension of the epidural collection, thereby delaying the mass effect responsible for its clinical manifestations.

Methods: We report a rare case of an extensive C7-T10 epidural abscess in a 54-year-old man treated with antibiotics, laminectomy, and abscess drainage. In addition, we conducted a systematic literature search according to the "Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews" guidelines.

Spinal epidermoid cysts are rare benign tumors. The etiology can be acquired or congenital. We present a rare case of an 18-month-old girl presented 4 months ago with spontaneous intergluteal swelling fistulized to the skin and lower limbs weakness.

Background: Spinal cord compression (SCC) is a severe consequence of multiple myeloma (MM). Surgical management is appropriate when there are spinal instability and neurological function compromise. The reversibility of peripheral neuropathy during treatment of MM has been reported in some studies after a cycle of Bortezomib (Velcade), Thalidomide, and Dexamethasone (VTD), but very rare in myeloma patients with SCC.
