Background Subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) is characterized by elevated thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels, while thyroid hormones (free thyroxine (T4) and free triiodothyronine (T3)) remain within the reference ranges. Vitamin B12 (cobalamin) deficiency is common in patients with autoimmune disorders, including autoimmune hypothyroidism. The study was aimed at evaluating serum vitamin B12 levels and holotranscobalamin (HoloTC) levels in SCH patients and ascertaining their association with a risky level of TSH and the positivity of anti-thyroid peroxidase (anti-TPO) antibodies.

To define death, one has to define the characteristics of a living person and to confirm whether an individual with brain death fulfils any of these characteristics. Although the concept of irreversible cessation of brain function is clear, controversy remains on the treatment of individuals with brain death and beating hearts.

This study includes detection of HAdV-D types implicated in conjunctivitis based on L2 (Penton protein) gene similarity.
Methods: Conjunctival swabs were collected from Keratoconjunctivitis patients as eye infection related to adenovirus.
Objective: To evaluate the postoperative surgical complications of live unrelated renal transplantation (LURRT) done abroad for patients of end stage renal disease (ESRD) who needed renal replacement therapy (RRT) in an organ transplant centre.
Study Design: Descriptive, observational study.
Place And Duration Of Study: Department of Renal Transplantation, Hamed Al-Essa Organ Transplant Center, Kuwait, from January 1993 to December 2015.

Rabies is usually transmitted to humans through bites of infected animals; however, it can rarely be transmitted through deceased donor organs or tissues when not suspected. Here, we report a case of rabies transmission in a child. The child was a 5-year-old girl who was admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit with encephalitis of unexplained cause 3.

We aimed to monitor the activity and outcome of annual renal transplants in 2015.
Materials And Methods: Data on transplant patients were collected from hospital records from January 1, 2015, through December 31, 2015, at Ibn Sina Hospital.
Hemoglobinopathies are significant health problems in Iraq, including its Northern Kurdistan region. One of the essential components of management of these disorders is regular lifelong blood transfusions. The latter is associated with several complications including red cell alloimmunization.

The most common source of organs was impoverished people in India, Pakistan, Egypt, and the Philippines, deceased organ donors in Colombia, and executed prisoners in China. In response, in May 2008, The Transplantation Society and the International Society of Nephrology developed the Declaration of Istanbul on Organ Trafficking and Transplant Tourism consisting of a preamble, a set of principles, and a series of proposals.

It is becoming clear that microRNAs, a new class of small regulatory molecules, also play crucial roles in mediating tumor formation and progression. We found TGF-β to down-regulate the expression of the microRNA miR-584 in breast cancer cells.

The source of calcium was over-the-counter calcium-containing antacid (Tums®). Milk-alkali syndrome was first recognized secondary to treatment of peptic ulcer disease with milk and absorbable alkali.

The Declaration has been published globally and consists of a preamble, a set of principles and a series of proposals to improve the ethics and expand the benefits of the international organ transplantation endeavor. To promote and monitor the implementation of the Declaration, a Declaration of Istanbul Custodian Group (DICG) has been created.

Our aim was to assess a generic microemulsion CsA (Sigmasporin) for long-term impact on graft function and patient survival among stable renal transplant patients.
Methods: Over a 36-month period, patients with transplantations from >6 months earlier were maintained on CsA doses of 2-8 mg/kg/d to keep C(2) within the recommended therapeutic range.
The critical pathway of deceased donation provides a systematic approach to the organ donation process, considering both donation after cardiac death than donation after brain death. The pathway provides a tool for assessing the potential of deceased donation and for the prospective identification and referral of possible deceased donors.

Nevertheless the influence of BN on successful control of hypertension has not been well documented. We sought to clarify the effect of BN on blood pressure patterns and control in renal transplant patients.

Patients And Methods: Between November 1993 and December 2005, we performed 646 renal transplantation procedures in 373 males and 273 females, of whom 81 were children. Kidney grafts were obtained from 461 living and 185 cadaveric donors.
We tested a hypothesized pharmacokinetic difference between the reference (Sandimmun Neoral) and test (Sigmasporin Microral) products to prove therapeutic equivalence in an open, multiple fixed dose, one-way crossover, multicenter, and multinational study over a period of 29 days. Forty two stable renal transplant recipients maintained on Sandimmun Neoral were enrolled. Whole blood was collected at day 14 of the study at 0, 0.

We enrolled 75 patients from seven centers in five Middle Eastern countries monitored them for 6 months after conversion to Sigmasporin Microral. Readings at 0, 0.

The incidence of mycobacterial infection (TB) is significantly higher in patients with end-stage renal disease and renal transplant recipients than in normal individuals. Tracheoesophageal fistulas (TEF) resulting from Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection are uncommon. We describe a 44-year old renal transplant recipient with such a lesion that had typical clinical presentation and radiological appearance of TEF and was successfully treated conservatively.

Mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) may have a promoting effect on the development of posttransplantation erosive enterocolitis and a Crohn's disease-like pattern of colitis. We have presented a 40-year-old man with end-stage renal disease due to chronic glomerulonephritis who commenced hemodialysis for 2 months before receipt of a live unrelated renal transplant.

A single daily dosing of cyclosporine (SD) is rarely used. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of SD versus twice daily dosing of CsA.
