Article Synopsis
  • - Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a parasitic skin disease endemic to Iran’s Khorasan province, with both anthroponotic and zoonotic forms occurring in the area, though some locations still lack clear data on their leishmaniasis molecular map.
  • - In a study of 120 patients with suspected CL in Khaf, direct microscopy confirmed 45% of samples were positive, while PCR revealed 55% showed Leishmania species, predominantly L. tropica.
  • - The findings indicate both CL forms are present in Khaf, with L. tropica being the main cause of ACL; further research is needed to identify potential reservoirs and vectors for L. major in the region.
