Background: To determine the prevalence of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in Jordan, as well as the factors associated with DR.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 127 consecutive newly diagnosed (within the past 6 months) patients with T2DM attending one of two diabetic care centers. Complete ocular examinations were performed by an ophthalmologist and relevant data were collected.

Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of adding pioglitazone to treatment with metformin (MF) and gliclazide in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) who had inadequate glycemic control.

Methods: This study is a retrospective cohort study based on King Abdullah University Hospital records concerning type 2 diabetic adult patients for year 2008. Patients included were assessed according to changes in glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), lipid profile, albuminuria and liver enzymes before and after the addition of pioglitazone.

Background: There is debate about the most effective method for teaching evidence-based medicine (EBM) in medical schools. This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of integration of EBM training seminars into the curriculum of the community medicine course in changing the knowledge and attitudes of the fourth year medical students towards EBM.

Methods: This is a quasi-experimental study conducted on the fourth year medical students who joined the community medicine mandatory summer course at Jordan University of Science and Technology in the period between July 1 and August 31, 2008.

Objectives: To assess the association between severity and extent of maternal periodontal disease and preterm birth/low birth weight (PLBW) among women in the north of Jordan.

Background: This meta-analysis was conducted to examine the relationship between periodontal diseases and coronary heart diseases (CHD) and cerebrovascular diseases (CVD) in observational studies.

Methods: This study was based on seven cohort studies and four studies of other designs that met prestated inclusion criteria. Information on study design, year of publication, study location, sample size, study population, participant characteristics, measurement of risk factors, exposure and outcome measures, matching, controlling for confounders, and risk estimates was abstracted independently by two investigators using a standard protocol.
