Validity of Cognitive Disengagement Syndrome with Mother and Father Ratings of Brazilian Children: Replication of Northern Hemisphere Findings in South America.

Although the Child and Adolescent Behavior Inventory (CABI) cognitive disengagement syndrome (CDS) scale has demonstrated validity relative to the CABI attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder-inattention (ADHD-IN) scale with parent ratings of youth from North America, Europe, East Asia, and Central Asia, no study has evaluated the validity of the 15 symptom CDS scale with children from South America. Our purpose was to examine for the first time the validity of the CABI CDS scale with Brazilian children. Latent variable modeling procedures were used to examine the validity of CDS scores.

Effects of intradialytic bicycle ergometer exercise on transcription factors NF-ĸB and Nrf2 in patients with chronic kidney disease: A randomized crossover clinical trial.

Purpose: To evaluate the effects of an intradialytic aerobic exercise training program on the expression of transcription factors nuclear factor κappa B (NF-κB) and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), related to inflammatory and antioxidant pathways, respectively, in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on hemodialysis.

Methods: This was a longitudinal, randomized clinical trial with a washout period and crossover performed with 33 patients randomized into two groups: Exercise (individualized intradialytic aerobic exercise on an adapted stationary exercise bike) three times per week for three months and control (without exercise). After the washout period (1 month), the exercise group became the control, and the other group performed the exercises for another three months.

Adipose tissue dysfunction influences the development of dyslipidemias associated with obesity, however, the mechanisms are still unclear. In this sense, the literature highlights the role of copper in cholesterol synthesis, contributing to the increase in concentrations of this lipid fraction and consequently to the manifestation of dyslipidemia. The objective of the study was to investigate the relationship between copper parameters and lipid profile markers in women with obesity.

Methods: This review included only randomized clinical trials (RCTs) involving adult populations diagnosed with MDD, regardless of the severity level (mild, moderate, or severe) according to any validated diagnostic criteria, compared to a control group (active treatment or none), with any follow-up duration and free access to the manuscript.

This scoping review has the objective of mapping and assessing screening instruments validated for mental disorders that are applicable in PHC, particularly regarding their measurement properties.

Identification of novel candidate predisposing genes in familial nonmedullary thyroid carcinoma implicating DNA damage repair pathways.

The genetic basis of nonsyndromic familial nonmedullary thyroid carcinoma (FNMTC) is still poorly understood, as the susceptibility genes identified so far only account for a small percentage of the genetic burden. Recently, germline mutations in DNA repair-related genes have been reported in cases with thyroid cancer. In order to clarify the genetic basis of FNMTC, 94 genes involved in hereditary cancer predisposition, including DNA repair genes, were analyzed in 48 probands from FNMTC families, through targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS).

Background: Vectorial transmission through hematophagous triatomine insects remains the primary mode of Chagas Disease contagion. These insects have become increasingly common in urban environments. Therefore, this study aimed to report an encounter of triatomines with trypanosomatid infection in a vertical residential condominium in Rio Branco, the capital of the state of Acre, in the western Brazilian Amazon.

Background: Anthropogenic threats are causing alteration of coastal areas worldwide. Most of the coastal biodiversity is endangered, taking a particular toll on island ecosystems, like the Azores. To better understand the biotic and abiotic factors constraining the distribution and conservation status of two endemic plants, Azorina vidalii (Campanulaceae) and Lotus azoricus (Fabaceae), we performed a global survey of coastal plant communities in the archipelago, also covering environmental descriptors, natural and anthropogenic threats.

Background: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and factors associated with susceptibility to hepatitis B virus (HBV) among cisgender men who have sex with men (MSM) on HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in Northeastern Brazil.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional, analytical study conducted between September 2021 and June 2023. Participants underwent structured interviews to collect sociodemographic and clinical information, including hepatitis B vaccination history, HIV PrEP use and sexual health history.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared an international state of emergency in order to contain the rapid spread of COVID-19. To ensure that there is adherence to preventive measures by the population aimed at controlling the pandemic in Alagoas, it is expected that knowledge, behavior and practices play an important role in preventing and controlling the disease. In this sense, it becomes relevant to understand the knowledge of the population about the disease.

Genome-Scale Analyses Reveal Roadblocks to Monkey Cloning.

Cloning by somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) remained challenging for Rhesus monkeys, mostly due to its low efficiency and neonatal death. Genome-scale analyses revealed that monkey SCNT embryos displayed widespread DNA methylation and transcriptional alterations, thus including loss of genomic imprinting that correlated with placental dysfunction. The transfer of inner cell masses (ICM) from cloned blastocysts into ICM-depleted fertilized embryos rescued placental insufficiency and gave rise to a cloned Rhesus monkey that reached adulthood without noticeable abnormalities.
