A recovery-oriented day hospital in psychiatry: A springboard for reintegration.

Psychiatric disorders are common and can cause psychological disabilities. While the creation of day hospitals (DHs) was intended to direct psychiatric care towards community settings, they may have paradoxically contributed to a form of chronicity. Furthermore, the heterogeneity and lack of evaluation of care within DHs prevent the availability needed to collect objective data on users outcomes.

Effect of an adapted physical activity program on stress, anxiety, depression in patients with schizophrenia: study protocol of a randomized-controlled trial.

Physical activity (PA) is recommended to optimize well-functioning in people with schizophrenia. PA has been found to improve quality of life, general symptomatology, depression, anxiety and stress symptoms, global and social functioning. In PA research, most of the interventions are based on one-on-one interventions but there is poor information about group-based PA interventions.

Employment, Studies and Feelings: Two to Nine Years After a Personalized Program of Cognitive Remediation in Psychiatric Patients.

Employment rate in psychiatry is around 10 to 30%. Cognitive remediation (CR) associated with psychosocial rehabilitation shows good functional outcomes, with a high level of satisfaction in participants provided by tailored CR. However, few studies looked at the long-term outcome in participants who experienced such a program.

3,3'-Diindolylmethane is available as a supplement in the United States for "cancer prevention" and "augmentation of physical fitness." A derivative of indole-3-carbinol found in plants, diindolylmethane, binds to receptors associated with the sex steroid pathways and has unclear effects on estrogen and androgen physiology. We present a patient who had been taking diindolylmethane and developed right lower extremity deep venous thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary embolism.

[Acute respiratory distress syndrome in a patient treated with atenolol].

We report a case of acute respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) in a patient treated with Atenolol (Tenormin) for two months. According to the different criteria which are generally used, the diagnosis of pulmonary oedema induced by Atenolol was made. There were extra pulmonary clinical signs (cutaneous and articular) which were associated with blood hypereosinophilia and were suggesting the mechanism of RDS was hypersensitivity.

[Pleural involvement of myeloma. Apropos of 2 cases].

The authors report two cases of myelomatosis localised to the pleura, one of which was associated with an adenocarcinoma. Pleural effusions are relatively rare during the course of multiple myeloma and most often occur with non-specific disorders of the disease.
