Background: Chronic mesenteric ischemia (CMI) is a rare disease; however, symptomatic CMI has a risk of acute exacerbation without timely revascularization.
Case Presentation: A 54-year-old man who had had postprandial pain for 6 months was admitted to our hospital because of vomiting and diarrhea. Although the celiac and superior mesenteric arteries were occluded at the proximal portion, contrast enhancement of the bowel wall was good in contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CECT).
Purpose: This study was conducted to clarify the clinicopathologic characteristics relevant to the specific diagnosis of mucinous cystic tumors of the pancreas.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical features and histopathologic findings of five patients who underwent curative resection for mucinous cystic tumors of the pancreas at our hospital between 1975 and 2000.
Results: All five patients were women, ranging in age from 36 to 69 years, and the tumors were located in the pancreatic body and tail.

We encountered a rare variant of carcinoma of the ampulla of Vater in a 68-year-old man with postprandial abdominal pain and nausea. Ultrasonography and computed tomography showed a dilated common bile duct and main pancreatic duct. At duodenoscopy, the papilla of Vater was enlarged, and biopsy specimens taken from the papilla revealed signet-ring-cell carcinoma.
