Melatonin in Human Milk: A Scoping Review.

Melatonin is vital in human circadian rhythm and infant development. This scoping review summarized the current knowledge about melatonin's presence and effects in human milk to promote better understanding of its secretion pattern and clinical advancement of maternal-infant health. The review followed the Joanna Briggs Institute guideline and answered the question: What is the current knowledge about melatonin hormone in human milk? The databases searched were PubMed, CINAHL, SCOPUS, Web of Science, LILACS, Scielo, EMBASE, Science Direct, Eric, Cochrane, in addition to grey literature and reference lists of included sources.

[Judicialization of cannabidiol-based products in Brazil: an analysis from 2019 to 2022].

The study analyzed the lawsuits of patients who requested cannabidiol (CBD)-based products from the Brazilian Unified National Health System during the period from 2019 to 2022, describing sociodemographic, clinical, and legal characteristics. This is a cross-sectional study composed of the evaluation of the technical notes issued by the Center for Technical Support of the Judiciary (NatJus), which supports judicial decisions. The data were obtained from the e-NatJus system, of the Brazilian Ministry of Justice, using web scraping techniques.

Identification and Optimization of RNA-Splicing Modulators as Huntingtin Protein-Lowering Agents for the Treatment of Huntington's Disease.

Huntington's disease (HD) is caused by an expanded CAG trinucleotide repeat in exon 1 of the huntingtin () gene. We report the design of a series of pre-mRNA splicing modulators that lower huntingtin (HTT) protein, including the toxic mutant huntingtin (mHTT), by promoting insertion of a pseudoexon containing a premature termination codon at the exon 49-50 junction. The resulting transcript undergoes nonsense-mediated decay, leading to a reduction of mRNA transcripts and protein levels.

Standardized Nursing Examination Remediation: A Program Evaluation.

This study conducted a remediation-focused program evaluation.

Symptoms of Depression in the Postpartum Period: Targeting Maternal Mental Health in the Perinatal Period.

This cross-sectional study aimed to examine the relationship between postpartum depression symptoms, anxiety, and stress during the postpartum period. A total of 101 women were assessed using the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) within 14 days after delivery. Multivariate regression analysis revealed that paid work, tobacco use, and stress symptoms were significantly associated with a higher incidence of postpartum depression symptoms.

Influence of Ag size and shape in dye photodegradation using silver nanoparticle/ZnO nanohybrids and polychromatic light.

In this work, we propose zinc oxide (ZnO) surface functionalization with plasmonic silver nanoparticles (AgNP) of different sizes and shapes (spheres, prisms, and rods) creating ZnO/AgNP nanohybrids. These were characterized by UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and photoluminescence spectroscopy. Surface functionalization with AgNP improved photocatalyst electronic properties, its visible light absorption, and slow electron/hole recombination on the ZnO surface.

Bilateral Transfer of Performance between Real and Non-Immersive Virtual Environments in Post-Stroke Individuals: A Cross-Sectional Study.

(1) Background: Post-stroke presents motor function deficits, and one interesting possibility for practicing skills is the concept of bilateral transfer. Additionally, there is evidence that the use of virtual reality is beneficial in improving upper limb function. We aimed to evaluate the transfer of motor performance of post-stroke and control groups in two different environments (real and virtual), as well as bilateral transfer, by changing the practice between paretic and non-paretic upper limbs.

Immunoanalysis of different antigenic preparations of Angiostrongylus cantonensis for neuroangiostrongyliasis diagnosis improvement.

Background: Angiostrongylus cantonensis is the etiological agent of neuroangiostrongyliasis in humans, which is developed in gastropods and vertebrate species, mainly rodents. Human transmission occurs through consumption of molluscs and paratenic hosts infected with L3, and the migration of larvae to the central nervous system causes eosinophilic meningitis. Laboratory diagnosis is based on molecular and immunological tests, using young or adult females as a source of antigens.

Sleep endoscopy as a complementary diagnostic method for snoring and sleep apnea.

Obstructive sleep apnea is a disorder characterized by complete or incomplete and recurrent upper airway collapse induced by sleep. Several diagnostic methods for obstructive sleep apnea are used, but only sleep endoscopy allows an endoscopic assessment of pharyngeal collapse during sedation. It is essential to carry out sleep endoscopy following a systematic institutional protocol, in preestablished stages, to ensure better reproducibility and reliability of the results found.

Cariprazine on Psychosis: Beyond Schizophrenia - A Case Series.

Cariprazine is an atypical antipsychotic that has D2 and D3 partial agonism properties in addition to the usual 5-HT2A receptor antagonist action of second-generation antipsychotics. It has a distinctly higher affinity for D3 receptors, which is 10-fold higher than for D2 receptors. Cariprazine is also a 5-HT1A partial agonist, with a potential antidepressant effect.

Introduction: Communication in clinical practice is essential to healthcare quality, especially in Oncology. The Patient Assessment of Communication Experiences questionnaire evaluates the perspective of cancer patients towards communication and identifies areas that can be improved. This study consists in its translation and validation to European Portuguese, to identify these areas.

AlergiaPT: A Portuguese media campaign to inspire people with allergies to make a positive change in their life.

Allergic diseases comprise a significant cause of morbidity worldwide and a substantial burden on the health and medical systems of both developed and emerging economies. Although highly prevalent, relatively severe, and largely impactful on the quality of life of patients, allergic diseases are commonly trivialized. Increasing awareness of the relevance of allergic diseases as a major public health problem might lead to an improved acknowledgment by governments and health authorities.

Data Sources for Drug Utilization Research in Brazil-DUR-BRA Study.

In Brazil, studies that map electronic healthcare databases in order to assess their suitability for use in pharmacoepidemiologic research are lacking. We aimed to identify, catalogue, and characterize Brazilian data sources for Drug Utilization Research (DUR). The present study is part of the project entitled, "Publicly Available Data Sources for Drug Utilization Research in Latin American (LatAm) Countries.

Integrated bioprocess for structured lipids, emulsifiers and biodiesel production using crude acidic olive pomace oils.

Olive pomace oil (OPO), a by-product of olive oil industry, is directly consumed after refining. The novelty of this study consists of the direct use of crude high acidic OPO (3.4-20% acidity) to produce added-value compounds, using sn-1,3-regioselective lipases: (i) low-calorie dietetic structured lipids (SL) containing caprylic (C8:0) or capric (C10:0) acids by acidolysis or interesterification with their ethyl esters, (ii) fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) for biodiesel, and (iii) sn-2 monoacylglycerols (emulsifiers), as by-product of FAME production by methanolysis.
