Millions of individuals worldwide, across all age groups, suffer from the widespread health issue of gastric ulcers. In many experiments, cilostazol (Cls), a phosphodiesterase-3 inhibitor, was recently shown to have anti-ulcer activity. Notably, Cls increases the expression and transcriptional activity of PPAR-γ in vitro and in vivo.

Aberrant origin of the vertebral artery is a rare case. Due to its important clinical significance during operations in the superior mediastinum and the root of the neck, the variations of this artery should be clarified, and any cadaveric case should be explored specifically if accompanied by any vascular problem. In this cadaveric case, the embalmed male cadaver was found to have a pacemaker wire inserted in the heart through the superior vena cava, denoting a vascular incompetence due to sinus arrhythmia.

In one pot, the self-assembly of AgNO and 2-chloroquinoxaline (2Cl-quinox) in water-ethanol mixture afforded two novel crystalline Ag(I) complexes. The major product is the polymeric complex [Ag(2Cl-quinox)(NO)]; (1), while the minor product (2) comprises two molecules which are the monomeric [Ag(2Cl-quinox)(NO)]; (2a) and polymeric [Ag(2Cl-quinox)(NO)]; (2b) complexes. The single crystal X-ray structure revealed that 1 and 2b are made up of two-dimensional infinite sheets.

The current study aimed to investigate the cardiotoxic effect of dexamethasone-high-dose in rats, the therapeutic effect of carvedilol and the role of α1-adrenergic receptor (α1AR). The experiment involved 6 groups: control, dexamethasone (10 mg/kg), carvedilol (10 mg/kg), phenylephrine (1 mg/kg), phenylephrine plus carvedilol and propranolol (30 mg/kg). Drugs and vehicles were given for 7 days.

The present study aimed to investigate the role of α and β-adrenergic receptors (βARs) in mediation or modulation of the dexamethasone-induced nephrotoxicity by using different pharmacological interventions. Nephrotoxicity was induced by subcutaneous injection of dexamethasone (10 mg/kg) for 7 days in Wistar albino rats. Eight groups were used: control; dexamethasone; carvedilol; phenylephrine; carvedilol and phenylephrine; propranolol; doxazosin; propranolol and doxazosin.

Background: () is one of the most important nosocomial pathogens responsible for a wide range of infections.

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the existence of the plasmidic genes encoding for aminoglycoside modifying enzymes (AMEs), 16S rRNA methyltransferases (RMT), and the altered dihydropetroate synthase (DHPS) encoded by the gene among clinical isolates collected from Taif, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). The mutations in  and genes were also investigated.

The reaction of an alkyl or aryl isocyanates with some primary amines in acetonitrile at room temperature afforded the corresponding alkyl- and aryl-urea derivatives. All the prepared urea compounds have been elucidated by FTIR, NMR, and elemental analysis. The compounds 1 and 3 were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Background: Metformin (MET) may exert anti-rheumatic effects and reduce cartilage degradation through its immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory actions.

Methods: This was a double-blind placebo-controlled study, 120 adult patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) were randomized to receive MET (1000 mg) or placebo daily with methotrexate (MTX, 7.5 mg/week) for 12 weeks.

Two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of matrix metalloproteinase (MMPs) 3 and 9 are functionally implicated in the progression of various types of cancer, including breast cancer (BC). However, the roles of these SNPs remain controversial. In addition, they also vary between one population and another.

Background: Chalcones are naturally occurring compounds found in various plant species which are widely used for the traditional popular treatments. Chalcones are distinguished secondary metabolites reported to display diverse biological activities such as antiviral, antiplatelet, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, antibacterial and antioxidant agents. The presence of a,ß-unsaturated carbonyl group in chalcones is assumed to be responsible for their bioactivity.

Few advances have been made in overall survival for glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) in more than 40 years. Here, we report the case of a 38-year-old man who presented with chronic headache, nausea, and vomiting accompanied by left partial motor seizures and upper left limb weakness. Enhanced brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed a solid cystic lesion in the right partial space suggesting GBM.

The measurement of serum free light chain (sFLC) has been shown to be valuable in screening for the presence of plasma cell dyscrasia as well as for baseline prognosis in newly diagnosed patients. The aim of the present work was to study the prognostic value of sFLC in multiple myeloma in relation to other serum biomarkers, response to therapy and survival. Forty five newly diagnosed patients with MM were included in the study.

Unlabelled: Various DNA damage, induced by endogenous and exogenous factors, is handled through DNA repair pathways such as X-ray repair cross-complementing protein (XRCC). Genetic variations in these pathways may have a joint or additive effect on various types of cancer, including the risk of breast cancer (BC).

Aim: To evaluate the association of three single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) Arg399Gln, Arg194Trp, and Thr241Met in DNA repair genes XRCC1 and XRCC3 on the risk of BC, and to assess their interaction with risk factors and prognostic markers in a case-control study in Egypt.

Cyclosporine A (CsA), a potent immunosuppressive drug, has been found to induce glucose intolerance through its toxic effect on the endocrine pancreas. It is not exactly known whether CsA has a direct effect on the endocrine pancreas or induces its effect indirectly. The present study was therefore undertaken to examine the function and morphology of isolated pancreatic islets when they are directly exposed in vitro to CsA.

The ability of the fetal pancreatic islet cells to multiply rendered them a potential tissue for transplantation studies to cure diabetes. A bank of fetal islets could be created with proper storage in liquid nitrogen. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of thawing rate and post-thaw culture on the structural and functional integrity of isolated cryopreserved islets of rat fetuses.

Objective: To perform a morphometric and structural study of the cultured isolated fetal rat pancreatic islets.

Methods: Islets of the fetal rat pancreas, aged 22 days were isolated by the standard procedure of collagenase digestion and culture technique. The islets were cultured for 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 days.

This case report documents a variation in the insertion of the coracobrachialis muscle of the right arm of an adult male cadaver of unknown age. In addition to the normal insertion of the coracobrachialis muscle into the middle of the medial border of the humerus, an additional slender tendon passed inferiorly, crossing anterior to the median nerve and brachial artery before attaching to the medial epicondyle of the humerus. Most of the proximal part of the tendon gave rise to an aponeurotic expansion that inserted into the distal medial border of the humerus.
