Recent development in immunotherapy for cancer treatment has substantiated to be more effective than most of the other treatments. Immunity is the first line of defence of the body; nevertheless, cancerous cells can manipulate immunity compartments to play several roles in tumour progression. Tumour-associated macrophages (TAMs), one of the most dominant components in the tumour microenvironment, are recognized as anti-tumour suppressors.

Drug repurposing involves the investigation of existing drugs for new indications. It offers a great opportunity to quickly identify a new drug candidate at a lower cost than novel discovery and development. Despite the importance and potential role of drug repurposing, there is no specific definition that healthcare providers and the World Health Organization credit.

Drug repurposing is a promising approach that has the potential to revolutionize the drug discovery and development process. By leveraging existing drugs, we can bring new treatments to patients more quickly and affordably. Anti-inflammatory drugs have been shown to target multiple pathways involved in cancer development and progression.

Background: The incidence of diabetes mellitus (DM) is dramatically increasing worldwide, and it is expected to affect 700 million cases by 2045. Diabetes influences health care economics, human quality of life, morbidity, and mortality, which were primarily seen extensively in developing countries. Uncontrolled DM, which results in consistent hyperglycemia, may lead to severe life-threatening complications such as nephropathy, retinopathy, neuropathy, and cardiovascular complications.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a highly fatal malignancy with limited therapeutic options and high recurrence rates. Recently, immunotherapeutic agents such as immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have emerged as a new paradigm shift in oncology. ICIs, such as programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) inhibitors, have provided a new source of hope for patients with advanced HCC.

Necroptosis, a type of programmed cell death that resembles necrosis, is now known to depend on a different molecular mechanism from apoptosis, according to several recent studies. Many efforts have reported the possible influence of necroptosis in human disorders and concluded the crucial role in the pathophysiology of various diseases, including liver diseases, renal injuries, cancers, and others. Fibrosis is the most common end-stage pathological cascade of several chronic inflammatory disorders.

Medical video watermarking is one of the beneficial and efficient tools to prohibit important patients' data from illicit enrollment and redistribution. In this paper, a new blind watermarking scheme has been proposed to improve the confidentiality, integrity, authenticity, and perceptual quality of a medical video with minimum distortion. The proposed scheme is based on 2D-DWT and dual Hessenberg-QR decomposition, where the input medical video is initially processed into frames.

Pancreatitis is a serious effect of the heavy metal cadmium (Cd) and inflammation and oxidative stress (OS) are implicated in Cd-induced pancreatic injury. This study evaluated the effect of the melatonin receptor agonist agomelatine (AGM) on Cd-induced acute pancreatitis (AP), pointing to its modulatory effect on inflammation, OS, and Nrf2/HO-1 pathway. Rats were supplemented with AGM orally for 14 days and a single injection of cadmium chloride (CdCl) on day 7.

Being a leading lethal malignancy worldwide, the pathophysiology of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has gained a lot of interest. Yet, underlying mechanistic basis of the liver tumorigenesis is poorly understood. The role of some coding genes and their respective translated proteins, then later on, some noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) such as microRNAs have been extensively studied in context of HCC pathophysiology; however, the implication of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and circular RNAs (circRNAs) in HCC is indeed less investigated.

Article Synopsis
  • - Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic disease that damages the nervous system and presents challenges in treatment, with varying patient responses despite traditional therapies aimed at symptom relief and disease modification.
  • - Research is increasingly exploring herbal medicine as a potential alternative or complementary treatment for MS, due to its long-standing reputation for safety and versatility in managing various disorders, including neurodegenerative diseases.
  • - This review summarizes recent clinical studies on herbal plants, aiming to evaluate their effectiveness in reducing common MS symptoms, slowing disease progression, and improving patients' overall quality of life.

Nifuroxazide (NFX) is a safe nitrofuran antibacterial drug used clinically to treat acute diarrhea and infectious traveler diarrhea or colitis. Recent studies revealed that NFX displays multiple pharmacological effects, including anticancer, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. NFX has potential roles in inhibiting thyroid, breast, lung, bladder, liver, and colon cancers and osteosarcoma, melanoma, and others mediated by suppressing STAT3 as well as ALDH1, MMP2, MMP9, Bcl2 and upregulating Bax.

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by a complex etiology that is reflected in the lack of consistently predictable treatment responses across patients of seemingly similar characteristics. Approaches to demystify the underlying predictors of aberrant treatment responses have made use of genome-wide association studies (GWAS), with imminent progress made in identifying single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with MS risk, disease progression, and treatment response. Ultimately, such pharmacogenomic studies aim to utilize the approach of personalized medicine to maximize patient benefit and minimize rate of disease progression.

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) represents a global health and economic challenge. Hepatic injuries have been approved to be associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) infection. The viral tropism pattern of SARS-CoV-2 can induce hepatic injuries either by itself or by worsening the conditions of patients with hepatic diseases.

According to data provided by World Health Organization, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the sixth most common cause of deaths due to cancer worldwide. Tremendous progress has been achieved over the last 10 years developing novel agents for HCC treatment, including small-molecule kinase inhibitors. Several small molecule inhibitors currently form the core of HCC treatment due to their versatility since they would be more easily absorbed and have higher oral bioavailability, thus easier to formulate and administer to patients.

This paper proposes a new blind, color image watermarking method using fast Walsh-Hadamard transformation (FWHT) and multi-channel fractional Legendre-Fourier moments (MFrLFMs). The input host color image is first split into 4 × 4 non-interfering blocks, and the MFrLFMs are computed for each block, where proper MFrLFMs coefficients are selected and FWHT is applied on the selected coefficients. The scrambled binary watermark has been inserted in the quantized selected MFrLFMs coefficients.

Background: There is no consensus on the ideal small bowel length that should be bypassed in laparoscopic one-anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB). This study aimed to compare the safety and efficacy of conventional versus distal techniques of laparoscopic OAGB.

Methods: This randomized controlled trial involved 60 adults with morbid obesity scheduled for laparoscopic OAGB randomly assigned to one of the two techniques; conventional technique (fixed anastomosis 200 cm from the ligament of Treitz) and distal technique (anastomosis 400 cm from the ileocecal valve).
