Studies found only a little amount of evidence about the impact of septoplasty on the mechanism of voice production, as well as vocal cord and laryngeal mucosal changes. ED point-of-care ultrasonography is associated with earlier drainage of pericardial effusion: A retrospective cohort study.

Objectives: To determine the association between emergency department point-of-care cardiac ultrasonography (POCUS) utilization and time to pericardial effusion drainage during an 8-year period when the emergency ultrasound program was established at our institution.

Methods: We performed a single-center retrospective cohort study in patients undergoing pericardiocentesis or other procedure for evacuation of pericardial effusion. Data was collected using both direct queries to the electronic health record database and two-examiner chart review.

Objective: All successful endonasal surgery, including functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS), depends on knowledge of both anatomy and the specific variations that can occur between and within patients. Familiarity with these structures is a critical component in preventing complications from these procedures, and failure to understand subtle variation can have disastrous results. The aim of this study was to characterize the anatomical variations (if any) of the cribriform plate using a large cadaveric sample set.

Impact of long-term oral iron supplementation in breast-fed infants.

Objective: To weigh benefits of oral iron supplements on infant's growth against its potential hazards.

Methods: 248 exclusively breast-fed infants aged 4-6 months were consecutively enrolled and divided into treatment group given iron containing multivitamin (TG = 198) and control group (placebo, PG = 50) given the same multivitamin but without is subdivided according to clinical assessment into group A (well nourished) and group B (malnourished); both were further stratified according to basal blood iron status. Assessment was done after 6 and 12 months with concurrent collection of morbidity parameters (diarrhea and fever).

Acute painful crises of sickle cell disease in Egyptian children: predictors of severity for a preventive strategy.

The objective of this study was to predict which infants with sickle cell disease (SCD) are prone to develop severe painful crises. In a mixed hospital - and community-based population (76 cases), demographic data, SCD diagnostic parameters, and basal blood counts were correlated with 2 indices of SCD severity: pain rate (average number of days of painful episodes per year of follow-up) and serious life-threatening complications, such as hyperhemolytic crises. Data were analyzed blind to these indices.

Enhancement by dexamethasone of the therapeutic benefits of cisplatin via regulation of tumor angiogenesis and cell cycle kinetics in a murine tumor paradigm.
