Background: Previous studies indicate hypocalcaemia as a potential diagnostic and prognostic marker of corona-virus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Our aim was to investigate these relations in more detail in a large test cohort and an independent validation cohort.
Methods: We retrospectively included 2792 COVID-19 suspected patients that presented to the emergency department (ED) of two hospitals.

The present spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, provoking COVID-19 disease, progresses rapidly worldwide. In current absence of a curative treatment and an effective, safe vaccine, there is a pressing need to focus on identifying and correcting deficits in immune function in order to reduce risk of severe progress of the disease and to lower the number of infections and fatalities. This paper evaluates the most recent literature on zinc status related to antiviral immunity and its possible role in COVID-19.

Behavioral performance was examined in: the Elevated Plus Maze, as an index for general anxiety; the rodent Iowa gambling test, probing reward-based decision making; and the object recognition and object-in-location task, to assess non-stressful contextual memory performance. We further determined hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) volume and cell density as well as adult proliferation and neurogenesis rates.

Traditionally, research has focused on consciously reported negative emotions. Yet, given that the majority of information processing occurs without conscious awareness, stress physiology might also be influenced by affective processes that people are not aware of.
