Objectives: To examine the relation between early maladaptive schemas (EMS), as defined in schema therapy, and both child and adult attachment.
Design: A 15-year longitudinal design in which child attachment groups (secure, avoidant, ambivalent, and disorganized) were compared in early adulthood on their profile of scores across EMS domains. A similar strategy was used to examine EMS profiles as a function of adult attachment groups (secure, preoccupied, and fearful).
Background: The colposcopy-directed punch biopsy is widely used in the management of women with abnormal cervical cytology; however, its accuracy compared with definitive histology from an excision biopsy is not well established.
Objectives: To assess the accuracy of the colposcopy-directed punch biopsy to diagnose high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Search Strategy: A systematic search of MEDLINE, EMBASE and the Cochrane Library was performed.
Aims: To evaluate the variance in current UK clinical practice and clinical outcomes for direct percutaneous radiologically inserted gastrostomy (RIG).
Materials And Methods: A prospective UK multicentre survey of RIG performed between October 2008 and August 2010 was performed through the British Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (BSGAR).
Results: Data from 684 patients were provided by 45 radiologists working at 17 UK centres.
Objective: The study aimed to determine the accuracy of the colposcopy-directed punch biopsy (punch) to detect or exclude high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN 2 or 3) in women with atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance (ASCUS) or low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL) cytological result and minor colposcopic findings.
Materials And Methods: In a diagnostic test accuracy study, women with ASCUS or LSIL cytological result and minor colposcopic changes had a single colposcopy-targeted punch biopsy was performed immediately followed by a loop electrocautery excision procedure (LEEP) biopsy. The trial was powered to detect a level of κ for a dichotomous outcome of 0.
Objective: Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) uses a medical device that applies magnetic pulses noninvasively to the cortex of the brain to depolarize neurons. We tested its safety and efficacy in young persons with a diagnosis of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Methods: Transcranial magnetic stimulation was applied to the right prefrontal cortex at 10 Hz, at 100% of the observed motor threshold, for 2000 pulses per session, in a 10-session course over 2 weeks in a sham-controlled crossover design (n=9).
Objective: To audit the process and outcome of case reviews performed for invasive cervical cancers diagnosed between 2003 and 2007, and the timely disclosure of results to the respective patients.
Methods: Invasive cervical cancer reviews were performed on all cases of cervical cancer diagnosed between 2003 and 2007. Following the review, women were classified into two categories: a group who developed invasive cancer despite adherence to the screening programme or in whom a management or diagnostic decision was determined to have been a principal factor in the development of their disease (Group A), and a second group who either had never undergone a cervical smear or had been established defaulters from the screening programme (Group B).
lin-28 is a conserved regulator of cell fate succession in animals. In Caenorhabditis elegans, it is a component of the heterochronic gene pathway that governs larval developmental timing, while its vertebrate homologs promote pluripotency and control differentiation in diverse tissues. The RNA binding protein encoded by lin-28 can directly inhibit let-7 microRNA processing by a novel mechanism that is conserved from worms to humans.

Sclerosing peritonitis is an uncommon condition that has been reported in patients with luteinized ovarian thecomas, although some pathologists have suggested that the underlying ovarian pathology is not always neoplastic. We now report sclerosing peritonitis in a patient with an uncommon, luteinized variant of an adult granulosa cell tumor. To the best of our knowledge, this association has not been described previously.

Objectives: To retrospectively investigate any potential shifts in the gender bias and age profile and to identify cohorts who are maintaining mumps virus in circulation.
Study Design: 2600 cases of acute mumps infection, as determined by the presence of mumps-specific IgM in sera and oral fluids, were confirmed at the National Virus Reference Laboratory.
Normal human lymphocytes resisted the hydrolytic action of secretory phospholipase A(2) but became susceptible to the enzyme following treatment with a calcium ionophore, ionomycin. To test the hypothesis that this susceptibility requires exposure of the anionic lipid phosphatidylserine on the external face of the cell membrane, experiments were repeated with a human Burkitt's lymphoma cell line (Raji cells). In contrast to normal lymphocytes or S49 mouse lymphoma cells, most of the Raji cells (83%) did not translocate phosphatidylserine to the cell surface upon treatment with ionomycin.

Methods: Data were collected prospectively on intraoperative and postoperative parameters and complications for all women undergoing a TLRH for cervical cancer. Patients were classified as obese, BMI >30 kg/m, or nonobese, BMI <30 kg/m.
Water pollution by microorganisms of fecal origin is a current world-wide public health concern. Total coliforms, fecal coliforms (Escherichia coli) and enterococci are indicators commonly used to assess the microbiological safety of water resources. In this study, influent water samples and treated water were collected seasonally from a water treatment plant and two major water wells in a Black Belt county of Alabama and evaluated for water quality indicator bacteria.

It also tests the role of conversations as mediators in the association between behavioral security and attachment representations. Mother-child conversations (snack-time) and attachment behaviors (Separation-Reunion procedure) were assessed for 83 5.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the surgical activity of obstetrics and gynaecology trainees and to explore trainees' and trainers' opinions on the current barriers and potential solutions to surgical training.
Methods: Two questionnaire surveys were conducted, one to obstetrics and gynaecology trainees working within the West Midlands Deanery and a second to consultant gynaecologists in the West Midlands region.
The efficacy of a short-term attachment-based intervention for changing risk outcomes for children of maltreating families was examined using a randomized control trial. Sixty-seven primary caregivers reported for maltreatment and their children (1-5 years) were randomly assigned to an intervention or control group. The intervention group received 8 weekly home visits directed at the caregiver-child dyad and focused on improving caregiver sensitivity.

Methods: Comparison of the audit categorization of all cervical cancer cases diagnosed at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire (UHNS) between January 2003 and December 2006 with the classification assigned by the West Midlands Cervical Screening Quality Assurance Reference Centre (WMQARC).
Results: Eighty-seven cases of cervical cancer were diagnosed during the three-year study period.
Introduction: To investigate the indications for performing a second large loop excision of the transformation zone (LLETZ) biopsy and to compare the associated colposcopic and pathological findings and treatment morbidity compared with 1 LLETZ.
Methods: This is a case-control study that reviewed case notes and histology reports on women who had undergone 1 LLETZ biopsy (control group) and women who had undergone 2 biopsies (index group). A comparison of referral cytology, colposcopic findings, and pathological and clinical outcomes was performed.
Objective: To determine current views and practice of the management of low-grade cervical abnormalities.
Materials And Methods: A questionnaire survey was distributed to all accredited colposcopists whose details were available on the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology database.
Results: Of the 1292 colposcopists contacted, 470 responded to the questionnaire.
Concordance between age-6 attachment behaviour and age-8 doll play attachment representations during the school-age period, and associations between these measures and child social adaptation at school were examined. One hundred and twenty-nine 6-year-olds and their mothers participated in a separation/reunion protocol. Two years later, 104 children completed a doll play narrative task.
