The ability of a surface to completely absorb a liquid droplet is an important property that can be controlled by geometrical structure and chemical composition of the surface. Here, using Laplace pressure and Gibbs free energy (GFE) considerations, a capped truncated microcone array geometry is proposed to obtain a near zero degree for contact angle (θ) of a water droplet. Our results showed that two essential conditions must be met to achieve a superabsorbent surface.

Difficulties with food acquisition at retailers, and food preparation and consumption are not captured by the United States Department of Agriculture's food security measure.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to develop a method to assess the overall prevalence of food insecurity regardless of underlying cause using validated measures that capture both food-related physical functioning limitations and resource-constraint food hardships.
Background/objectives: Nurse-like cells (NLCs) derived from monocytes in the tumor microenvironment support the growth of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) cells. Here, we investigated the effects of a CX3CR1 (fractalkine receptor) antagonist (KAND567) on autologous monocytes and their pro-survival effects on CLL cells in vitro.
Methods: Plasma concentration of CX3CL1 was determined by ELISA and CX3CR1 expression by flow cytometry.
Most Americans exceed the recommended limit for sodium in their diet, a risk factor for hypertension and cardiovascular disease. Efforts have been made by the food industry and government agencies to reduce the sodium content in foods and encourage the consumption of lower sodium diets. Such efforts, however, are not successful in improving public health when consumers do not accept and consume lower sodium foods.

Among socioeconomically disadvantaged groups, the association between flavonoid intake and measures of cognition is unclear. This study sought to identify associations between flavonoid intake and cognitive performance among Healthy Aging in Neighborhoods of Diversity across the Life Span (HANDLS) study participants (n = 1947) across three study visits.

Solar absorbers are potential candidates for effectively converting photons into heat and electricity. This study introduces a novel ultrathin metasurface solar absorber employing elliptical-shaped nanoantenna arrays.

However, silver nanowires are not chemically stable, and their conductivity diminishes over time due to reactions with atmospheric components. This is a bottleneck for their wide industrial applications.

The adequacy of habitual nutrient intake among US adults has not been evaluated by the level of animal protein (AP) intake.

ROR1 is of importance in oncogenesis and is overexpressed in several cancers, such as NSCLC. In this study, we evaluated ROR1 expression in NSCLC patients (N = 287) and the cytotoxic effects of a small molecule ROR1 inhibitor (KAN0441571C) in NSCLC cell lines.
