[Rehabilitation of fresh, surgically managed anteromedial knee instabilities].

In between 1983 and 1988, 33 patients suffering from an acute antero-medial instability of the knee were operated on for the anterior cruciate ligament. The reconstruction of the ligament was performed by transcondylar fixation. 25 of these patients took part in a retrospective examination.

Inguinal hernia operations in Germany.

There are not exact figures, in Germany, for the frequency of recurrence of hernia after an inguinal hernia operation. Due to a lack of statistics of our own, those of other countries will be used. The Bassini method is still the one most often carried out.

[Osteosynthesis of distal lower leg fractures].

Unfavorable stability relationships in the case of distal lower leg bone fractures after tibiaosteosynthesis can lead to late postoperative complications such as the formation of pseudarthroses or a breaking of the metal plate. A possibility of decreasing the extent of these complications is provided by the simultaneous supply of osteosynthesis to both the tibia and fibula. For this purpose three individual cases were presented.

[Isolated varicosis of the small intestine (without portal hypertension) causing massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding (author's transl)].

A case report is given of a 24 year old patient who had relapsing massive gastrointestinal bleeding from varices in the duodenum and jejunum, due to occlusion of the mesenterial vein. There is only one similar case described in the literature. 97 patients with varices of the small intestine have been described; in 41 of these cases there was extrahepatic, in 47 intrahepatic portal hypertension.

Insulin has an exacerbating effect on endogenous hypertriglyceridemia. Experiments were carried out in order to study the acute effects of insulin in 6 patients with endogenous hypertriglyceridemia and 6 controls. 0.

[Significance of magnesium, copper and zinc in medial femur neck fractures in the aged].

The medial fracture of the femur neck is mainly a fracture of the old man. It is well known, that often only minimal traumas are caused for the medial fracture of the femur neck. Osteoporosis alone is not the reason for fracture.

[The trace-element zinc in medial fractures of the collum femoris and in coxarthrosis (author's transl)].

In a comparative study among two groups of patients--persons with a medial fracture of the collum femoris and persons with advanced coxarthrosis--the zinc-content of the femur was measured. For this analysis a bone-biopsy was performed when an endoprothesis was implanted. In some of the patients the zinc-levels in the blood were determined on several occasions.

The influence of zinc on bone healing in rats.

The importance and necessity of the trace element zinc for tissue restitution after injuries has been known for a long time. The influence of zinc on the healing of tibial fractures in rats is studied by daily administration of 0.6 mg zinc-dl-aspartate compared to a non-treated control group.

[The treatment to the high gastric ulcer (author's transl)].

This is a report on 64 patients, who were operated on because of gastric ulcer situated near the cardia. We found the best results after the so-called step-like resection, which is preferable to selective vagotomy with excision of the ulcer and pyloroplasty because of the special conditions of the secretion of gastric juice in the case of high ulcers. Because of the danger of the development of a cancer in a B-II-stomach we prefer the B-I-anastomosis.

46 patients were operated upon for an ulcerocancer of the stomach. In detail the differential diagnosis and the possibilities for preoperatively establishing an exact diagnosis are described. The good results after resection of the tumor (5-year-survival rates are for early cancer 100% and for the other tumors 67.

[Differentialdiagnosis and surgical treatment of the familial intestinal polyposis (author's transl)].

Between 1959 and 1974 we observed 18 patients with familial intestinal polyposis. 4 patients were from one family. Two brothers refused the operation and died 7 respectively 8 years after diagnosis had been made.

[The penetrating duodenal ulcer. Operative technique and postoperative complications (author's transl)].

The results of 133 gastric resections for penetrating duodenal ulcer are reported. Because of the postoperative complications (acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis, duodenal stump insufficiency, icterus and intraluminal postoperative bleeding) in future only the atypical closure of the duodenal stump according to the method of Nissen-Bsteh should be carried out. A bleeding ulcer should be operated within 48 hrs.
