Unfavorable stability relationships in the case of distal lower leg bone fractures after tibiaosteosynthesis can lead to late postoperative complications such as the formation of pseudarthroses or a breaking of the metal plate. A possibility of decreasing the extent of these complications is provided by the simultaneous supply of osteosynthesis to both the tibia and fibula. A case report is given of a 24 year old patient who had relapsing massive gastrointestinal bleeding from varices in the duodenum and jejunum, due to occlusion of the mesenterial vein. There is only one similar case described in the literature. 97 patients with varices of the small intestine have been described; in 41 of these cases there was extrahepatic, in 47 intrahepatic portal hypertension.

In a comparative study among two groups of patients--persons with a medial fracture of the collum femoris and persons with advanced coxarthrosis--the zinc-content of the femur was measured. For this analysis a bone-biopsy was performed when an endoprothesis was implanted. In some of the patients the zinc-levels in the blood were determined on several occasions.

This is a report on 64 patients, who were operated on because of gastric ulcer situated near the cardia. We found the best results after the so-called step-like resection, which is preferable to selective vagotomy with excision of the ulcer and pyloroplasty because of the special conditions of the secretion of gastric juice in the case of high ulcers. Because of the danger of the development of a cancer in a B-II-stomach we prefer the B-I-anastomosis.

The results of 133 gastric resections for penetrating duodenal ulcer are reported. Because of the postoperative complications (acute hemorrhagic pancreatitis, duodenal stump insufficiency, icterus and intraluminal postoperative bleeding) in future only the atypical closure of the duodenal stump according to the method of Nissen-Bsteh should be carried out. A bleeding ulcer should be operated within 48 hrs.
