The elimination of pesticides from polluted water is critical due to their harmful environmental and biological impacts. Recently, there has been interest in utilizing natural polymer-based adsorbents as an eco-friendly approach to eliminate or reduce the levels of water pollutants. In this work, we synthesized an antimicrobial and magnetic bionanocomposite consisting of carboxymethyl gond katira-grafted- poly(3-aminobenzoic acid) with iron oxide and zinc oxide NPs (CMT-g-P3ABA/ZnO/FeO) through an in situ polymerization reaction and examined for its ability to adsorb the pesticide acetamiprid (AP).

Magnetic hydrogel particles improve nanopore sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses.

Presented here is a magnetic hydrogel particle enabled workflow for capturing and concentrating SARS-CoV-2 from diagnostic remnant swab samples that significantly improves sequencing results using the Oxford Nanopore Technologies MinION sequencing platform. Our approach utilizes a novel affinity-based magnetic hydrogel particle, circumventing low input sample volumes and allowing for both rapid manual and automated high throughput workflows that are compatible with Nanopore sequencing. This approach enhances standard RNA extraction protocols, providing up to 40 × improvements in viral mapped reads, and improves sequencing coverage by 20-80% from lower titer diagnostic remnant samples.

Association between cognitive representation of illness and the outcome of patients with premature coronary artery disease.

Objective: To assess whether illness perception (IP) in overall and each of its three dimensions (cognitive, emotional and comprehension) have an independent prognostic value in men and women with premature coronary artery disease (CAD).

Methods: In a prospective cohort, 778 patients (370 men and 408 women) with premature CAD(diagnosed in men aged<45 y and women aged<55 y), who had completed brief illness perception questionnaire were followed up for 4 years. Outcome event was defined as composite of all-cause mortality, nonfatal myocardial infarction(MI), repeated revascularization or/and stroke.

Innovative intra-corneal ring-supported graft surgery for treatment of keratoconus and cornea regeneration: Surgical technique and case report.

Therapeutic options for corneal ectasia are evolving, with emphasis on the intra-stromal corneal ring for delaying or eliminating the need for penetrating keratoplasty. A 33-year-old man with grade 4 keratoconus and rising intolerance of the hard contact lens underwent a combination of a new innovative ring and graft with suture in the left eye. Excellent structural support and stability of the cornea were observed immediately post-operatively and 12 months after surgery.

Long-term comparison of the outcomes of Ahmed Glaucoma Valve surgery between glaucoma surgeons and cornea trained surgeons.

Purpose: To compare the long-term outcomes obtained by glaucoma surgeons versus cornea trained surgeons performing Ahmed glaucoma valve (AGV) surgery.

Methods: Of the total 376 patients (3 month to 83 year) conducted in this retrospective study, 130 patients with refractory glaucoma were evaluated who had been followed up for at least six months during ten years period. The primary outcome measure was the surgical success of AGV surgery that was categorized in two groups: (A5 ≤ IOP ≤ 21 mmHg and at least 20% reduction in IOP without any glaucoma medications (complete success) and reduction by using one or more glaucoma medications (qualified success) (B) similar to previous criteria but the cutoff for higher IOP at 16 mmHg without vision loss and the need for medication or re-surgery.

In this work, amine-carbon quantum dots (CQDs)/rhodamine B (RhB) ratiometric fluorescent (RF) sensor was employed for effective and selective determination of tamsulosin hydrochloride (TMS) based on a dual-emission fluorescence system. Although the function of amine-CQDs is to transfer the specific interaction between TMS and sensor into detectable fluorescence (FL) signals, RhB as a reference unit has been employed to omit internal and external effects. The FL signal was quenched by adding the TMS at 442 nm; nevertheless, it did not change at 569 nm.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 200 smokers referred to military hospital for angiography, were enrolled in terms of the inclusion and exclusion criteria between 2019 and 2020.

A novel hybrid fluorescence probe sensor based on metal-organic framework@carbon quantum dots for the highly selective detection of 6-mercaptopurine.

In the present study, MIL-101(Fe) and amine-carbon quantum dots (CQDs) were combined via a post-synthetic modification (PSM) method; thus, a novel MIL-101(Fe)@amine-CQD hybrid fluorescent probe sensor for the detection of 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) was synthesized. Amine-CQDs as a fluorescent material can convert the bonding interaction between MIL-101(Fe) and 6-MP into recognizable fluorescence signals, and MIL-101 (Fe) as an adsorbent can pre-concentrate 6-MP. Hereupon, this new sensor demonstrates high selectivity and sensitivity towards the detection of 6-MP.
