The announcement of diabetes can be an ordeal for the person learning about it, and a difficult time for the doctor notifying them. By setting up a multi-professional team, we can offer personalized nursing support. This meets patients' expectations.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOptical manipulation of quantum systems requires stable laser sources able to produce complex waveforms over a large frequency range. In the visible region, such waveforms can be generated using an acousto-optic modulator driven by an arbitrary waveform generator, but these suffer from a limited tuning range typically of a few tens of MHz. Visible-range electro-optic modulators are an alternative option offering a larger modulation bandwidth, however they have limited output power which drastically restricts the scalability of quantum applications.

The development of AKI in intensive care unit (ICU) settings is linked to prolonged ICU stays, a heightened risk of long-term renal dysfunction, and elevated short- and long-term mortality rates. The current diagnostic approach for AKI is based on late indicators, such as elevated serum creatinine and decreased urine output, which can only detect AKI after renal injury has transpired.

We evaluated its utility in the study of economically important viruses from the genus (anguillid herpesvirus 1, cyprinid herpesvirus 2 and cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV-3)). This revealed that zebrafish larvae were not susceptible to these viruses after immersion in contaminated water, but that infections could be established using artificial infection models in vitro (zebrafish cell lines) and in vivo (microinjection of larvae).

The Zα domain protein family includes cellular (ADAR1, ZBP1 and PKZ) and viral (vaccinia virus E3 and cyprinid herpesvirus 3 (CyHV-3) ORF112) proteins. We studied CyHV-3 ORF112, which contains an intrinsically disordered region and a Zα domain.

Nevertheless, none of the published studies focusing on the prognostic value of PET-derived features at baseline consider tumor heterogeneity, which could be of high importance in MM. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of baseline PET-derived features in transplant-eligible newly diagnosed (TEND) MM patients enrolled in two prospective independent European randomized phase III trials using an innovative statistical random survival forest (RSF) approach.

Purpose: Multiple myeloma (MM) is a bone marrow cancer that accounts for 10% of all hematological malignancies. It has been reported that FDG PET imaging provides prognostic information for both baseline and therapeutic follow-up of MM patients using visual analysis. In this study, we aim to develop a computer-assisted method based on PET quantitative image features to assist diagnoses and treatment decisions for MM patients.

Using a dedicated broadband pump laser to increase the number of resolved elements converted in the image we obtain up to 56x64 spatial elements with a 2.7 nm wide pump spectrum, more than 10 times the number of elements accessible with a narrowband laser.

A conversion efficiency up to 20% with a nonpolarized pulsed fiber pump is demonstrated. Our uncooled setup is favorably compared in terms of noise equivalent power, dynamic range, and response time to cryogenically cooled HgCdTe detectors.

Mode-hopping is suppressed by means of a phase-locked loop that locks the pump-Stokes detuning to a local radio-frequency (RF) oscillator. Stable single-mode operation of a 110-m-long Brillouin fiber laser oscillating at 1.

The chip consists of two DFB single-mode lasers whose optical signals are combined on a fast photodiode to generate a largely tunable heterodyne beat note. We generate an optical comb from each laser with a microwave synthesizer, and by self-injecting the resulting signal, we mutually correlate the phase noise of each DFB and stabilize the beatnote on a multiple of the frequency delivered by the synthesizer.

Unlike other approaches implying digitizing or highly dispersive optical fibers, the proposed scheme reaches the μs range and potentially offers high bandwidth, both required for RADAR applications. In this Letter, we demonstrate faithful reversal of arbitrary pulse sequences with 6 μs duration and 10 MHz bandwidth.

This measurement is performed for different values of the transverse spatial separation between the two perpendicularly polarized modes. The consequences of these measurements on the two-frequency operation of such class-A semiconductor lasers are discussed.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFTunable dual-frequency oscillation is demonstrated in a vertical external-cavity surface-emitting laser. Simultaneous and robust oscillation of the two orthogonally polarized eigenstates is achieved by reducing their overlap in the optical active medium. The class-A dynamics of this laser, free of relaxation oscillations, enables one to suppress the electrical phase noise in excess that is usually observed in the vicinity of the beat note.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe demonstrate the generation of optically carried, broadly tunable, millimeter-wave signals with a dual-frequency single-axis Nd:YAG laser. A frequency difference as high as 127 GHz is reached thanks to an intracavity electro-optically tunable etalon made of lead zirconate tantalate (PLZT) ceramic. We show that the available frequency range is actually limited by the bandwidth of the amplification medium, namely, far beyond the usually accepted free spectral range value in the case of a single-axis laser.
