Anti-proliferative and immunomodulatory potencies of cinnamon oil on Ehrlich ascites carcinoma bearing mice.

Cinnamon is a well-known natural spice and flavoring substance used worldwide. The objective of the present work is to explore the possible antitumor and immunomodulatory potencies of cinnamon essential oil (Cinn) on Ehrlich ascites carcinoma (EAC). A total of fifty female Swiss albino mice were sub-grouped into five groups (n = 10), namely, normal (a non-tumorized and non-treated) group; EAC-tumorized and non-treated group; Cinn (non-tumorized mice received Cinn, 50 mg/kg per body weight daily) group; a group of EAC-tumorized mice treated with Cinn and the final positive control group of EAC-tumorized mice received cisplatin.

Assessment of genotoxicity of silver nanoparticles on lymphocyte cells of albino rats using comet assay.

Silver nanoparticles, "AgNPs", represent a prominent nanoproduct, but most of the previous toxicity studies on its genotoxicity are still limited. The current study aimed to assess the genotoxicity of AgNPs on lymphocyte cells using comet assay and to study the recovery probability. It was conducted on 50 adult male albino rats divided into "Control group", 10 rats were injected intraperitoneal, "IP", with distilled water for 28 days, and "Test groups", 40 rats were injected "IP" with 13 ± 3 nm AgNPs for 28 days, subdivided into group I: 10 rats were injected with 2 mg/kg AgNPs, group Ia: 10 rats were injected with 2 mg/kg AgNPs and left for another 4 weeks without scarification, group II: 10 rats were injected with 4 mg/kg AgNPs, and group IIa: 10 rats were injected with 4 mg/kg and left for another 4 weeks without scarification.

This work aims to assess the role of OCs as a risk factor for breast cancer and to evaluate the cellular changes induced by exposure to such environmental contaminants. The aim of this study is to assess the accuracy of sex determination from the length of all metacarpals and phalanges of right and left hands using X-ray radiographs and to develop a discriminant formula that can be used in the Egyptians. Medical errors are a major concern in health care today. Errors in point-of-care testing (POCT) are particularly problematic because the test is conducted by clinical operators at the site of patient care and immediate medical action is taken on the results prior to review by the laboratory. The Performance Improvement Program at Baystate Health System, Springfield, Massachusetts, noted a number of identification errors occurring with glucose and blood gas POCT devices.

Use of evidence for prevention of work-related musculoskeletal injuries.

Work-related injuries among nurses are a complex and costly problem. To thoughtfully approach this issue, one medical center developed a set of injury-reduction strategies and related tools based on a review of research literature and locally obtained evidence. This article describes the evidence-based approach to prevention of work-related musculoskeletal injuries.

Physical and emotional patient safety. A different look at nursing-sensitive outcomes.

Data on nursing-sensitive outcomes, beyond traditional isolated indicators such as pressure ulcers, are often unavailable for nurses to evaluate the overall quality of their care. This article describes a quality improvement effort to provide nurses with both a positive and a negative patient outcomes score. The approach can make visible the often invisible role of nurses in the growing field of patient safety.

Evidence-based practice and the role of nursing leadership.

A new term, evidence-based practice, is beginning to appear both in the healthcare literature and at professional, conferences. Its meaning, however, is not always clear, nor is its full implication for nurse administrators explained. This article provides a pragmatic definition of evidence-based practice developed in the nursing division at Baystate Medical Center, Springfield, Massachusetts.
