Ocular microtremor (OMT) is a fixational eye movement that cannot be seen with the naked eye but is always present, even when the eye appears motionless/still. The link between OMT and brain function provides a strong rationale for investigation as there lies potential for its use as a biomarker in populations with neurological impairments. OMT frequency is typically 70-80Hz in healthy adults and research suggests that this will be reduced in those with neurological disease such as Parkinson's Disease (PD).

As requested by the editors of this special issue of Hippocampus on Scientific Histories of Hippocampal Research, this review provides a detailed personal perspective and historical background on the research involved in a number of findings. The review includes description of the development of the water maze and its use in providing evidence to support the role of the hippocampus in spatial memory function. The review also describes how the water maze was then used in further work to support the proposal that NMDA-dependent synaptic modification in the hippocampus mediates the encoding of new spatial memories.

Interest has grown in leveraging mHealth to empower individuals living with severe mental illness and extend continuity of care beyond the hospital to the community. However, reported outcomes have been mixed, likely attributed in part to the intervention and adopted outcomes, which affected between-study comparisons.

Background: While several studies have summarised the clinical effectiveness evidence for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), there are no evidence syntheses of the impact of centres' ECMO patient volume on patient outcomes or the impact of bedside ECMO care being delivered by either a perfusionist or a nurse. There is also limited information on the cost-effectiveness of ECMO.
Purpose: This review was carried out to evaluate the clinical effectiveness and cost of different service delivery models of pulmonary ECMO to inform NHS Wales commissioning policy.
Background: Mechanically ventilated critically ill patients often develop pleural effusions, which may impact lung compliance and expansion. This systematic review explores the management of pleural effusion in the critically ill population.
Methods: A comprehensive literature search was performed.
Background: There is currently no pharmacological treatment for visuo-cognitive impairments in Parkinson's disease. Alternative strategies are needed to address these non-motor symptoms given their impact on quality of life. Novel technologies have potential to deliver multimodal rehabilitation of visuo-cognitive dysfunction, but more research is required to determine their feasibility in Parkinson's.

Methods: Scientific Registry of Transplant Recipients data were acquired in July 2023 and represented transplant centers with adult organ transplant volumes in the United States over the past year. This system involved a five-tier ranking system from one to five, where tier one programs had the lowest rating and tier five programs had the highest rating.
Self-management of chronic conditions can help individuals take control of their health, both improving well-being and reducing the burden on health and social care resources. This study explored the potential of our co-produced self-management tool, My Life Today (MLT), to help people with dementia identify, plan and monitor aspects of their lives that are important to them and that help to maintain or improve well-being. We asked people with dementia to try using MLT.

The FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) is a large-scale repository of reports concerning adverse drug events (ADEs). The same published clinical study or report may be reviewed by multiple companies or healthcare professionals and reported separately to the FDA, leading to a significant presence of duplicate reports in FAERS. These duplicate records can result in the identification of false associations between a given drug and an ADE.

However, a paucity of data exists in identifying factors associated with end-of-life (EoL) care in younger patients with TBI. We sought to identify hospital and patient factors associated with EoL care and timing of EoL care in younger adults with severe TBI.

Methods: Linking Medicare claims and provider datasets, we identified imaging interpretation claims submitted by nurse practitioners and physician assistants (together NPPs) in office settings, mapping NPPs to physician employer specialties, and assessed NPP characteristics and practice patterns.
Purpose: The new CAP guideline published in August 2022 recommends using immunohistochemistry (IHC) to test for mismatch repair defects in gastroesophageal (GE), small bowel (SB), or endometrial carcinoma (EC) cancers over next-generation sequencing assessment of microsatellite instability (NGS-MSI) for immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy eligibility and states there is a preference to use IHC over NGS-MSI in colorectal carcinoma (CRC).
Methods: We assessed the concordance of NGS-MSI and IHC-MMR from a very large cohort across the spectrum of solid tumors.
Results: Of the over 190,000 samples with both NGS-MSI and IHC-MMR about 1,160 were initially flagged as discordant.
Introduction: The Fontan circulation palliates single-ventricle congenital heart disease by separating the systemic and pulmonary circulations. An increasing number of women with a Fontan circulation are wishing to become pregnant, however the ability to increase cardiac output during pregnancy is limited in many due to the chronic low output state. We describe pregnancy outcomes in these women at a large tertiary centre, including functional and imaging outcomes.

Complications after iliofemoral and inferior vena cava stenting are rare, and most can be managed effectively without significant long-term consequences for the patient. Nevertheless, the procedure is not without risk, and clinicians considering starting a venous practice must be aware of the range of complications that can occur, which range from minor access site bleeds to fatal arrhythmia from stent migration to the heart. Most complications can be avoided with appropriate patient selection, stent sizing, and careful access and deployment techniques.

Psychometrically strong measures such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) can improve our capacity for thorough autism assessment. The conceptualization of the ADOS-2 has been shaped by research exploring the structure of its items, which evaluate autism traits associated with social affect and RRBs.
