Pre-Treatment of Fish By-Products to Optimize Feeding of L. Larvae.

Fish discards are organic waste with high and good-quality protein levels, as well as a fatty acid profile rich in -3 LCPUFAs, mainly eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid. These discards can be used as food for (Linnaeus, 1758) larvae, thus increasing the nutritional value of this insect. This study focused on increasing larval acceptance of fish through different pre-treatments of the diets provided, as well as increasing the accumulation of EPA and DHA in fish-fed larvae.

Effects of Relaxation Techniques on Nursing Students' Academic Stress and Test Anxiety.

Background: This mixed-methods study examined the effects of relaxation techniques on first-year baccalaureate nursing (BSN) students' academic stress, test anxiety, and intention to stay in the nursing profession.

Method: To evaluate the effects of using relaxation techniques, 45 students participated in a 6-week relaxation technique intervention and a focus group. A pretest was disseminated the first week of class and a posttest was disseminated at the end of the semester, followed by a focus group interview.

Potentially toxic elements in commonly consumed fish species from the western Mediterranean Sea (Almería Bay): Bioaccumulation in liver and muscle tissues in relation to biometric parameters.

Marine pollution is one of today's most relevant problems. Public awareness has been raised about the harmful potential of heavy metals (HMs) accumulating in edible fish and possibly ending up in human diet through the food chain. This study aimed to characterize and evaluate As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni and Pb contents in four edible fish species from the western Mediterranean Sea.

Mercury contents in relation to biometrics and proximal composition and nutritional levels of fish eaten from the Western Mediterranean Sea (Almería bay).

Total liver and muscle mercury, and muscular composition, biometrics and trophic levels, were determined in four species (Mullus surmuletus, Merluccius merluccius, Auxis rochei and Scomber japonicus) of the Mediterranean Sea (Almería Bay, Spain). Mercury levels did not exceed the maximum residue limit, and M. merluccius obtained the highest level in muscle.

Diversity of planktonic fish larvae along a latitudinal gradient in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean estimated through DNA barcodes.

Mid-trophic pelagic fish are essential components of marine ecosystems because they represent the link between plankton and higher predators. Moreover, they are the basis of the most important fisheries resources; for example, in African waters. In this study, we have sampled pelagic fish larvae in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean along a latitudinal gradient between 37°N and 2°S.

Assessing fishing and marine biodiversity changes using fishers' perceptions: the Spanish Mediterranean and Gulf of Cadiz case study.

Background: The expansion of fishing activities has intensively transformed marine ecosystems worldwide. However, available time series do not frequently cover historical periods.

Methodology: Fishers' perceptions were used to complement data and characterise changes in fishing activity and exploited ecosystems in the Spanish Mediterranean Sea and Gulf of Cadiz.

Patients tell the story: interrelationships among patient satisfaction, communications with providers, and emergency department care.

This study examines the relationship between four variables and patient satisfaction in an emergency department setting in a small community hospital in Suffolk County New York. Patients were assessed utilizing four variables: communications with doctors, communications with nurses, communications with ancillary staff, and environment of ED care. The study adds to the literature on which factors have the greatest influence on patient satisfaction in an emergency department setting.

Mobile technology: lessons learned along the way.

Although mobile technology has the potential to promote patient safety by increasing accuracy and efficiency, faculty may find instituting a personal digital assistant (PDA) program overwhelming. In addition, there is a dearth of information on how students are using this technology. The authors discuss the implementation of a PDA program that required all nursing students entering their first clinical rotation to purchase a PDA loaded with nursing software and describe how the students used this technology.
