Although the standard treatment for periodontal disease is based on scaling and root planing (SRP), the use of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) has been studied as a complement to obtain better clinical results. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of aPDT as adjuncts to SRP, compared with SRP alone, on clinical parameters of chronic periodontal patients. Only randomized controlled trials with at least 3-month follow-ups, of SRP alone and in association with aPDT, were included.

As part of a clinical practice which aims to alleviate the psychological suffering of children in situations of migration and/or uprooting, a discussion can be undertaken regarding the cultural aetiologies of migrant families whose children present autism spectrum disorders. The transcultural context enables families to travel between worlds as well as share their collective imagination regarding psychological suffering using graphic expression and narrative elements.

The objective of the study was to examine the process of mother to infant trauma transmission among traumatized mothers in humanitarian contexts. We investigated the impact of mothers' post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms on the quality of the dyadic interaction by conducting a microanalysis of mother-infant interactions at specific moments when trauma was recalled, compared to more neutral moments. Twenty-four mother-infant dyadic interactions of traumatized mothers and children aged from 1.

Introduction : The COVID-19 pandemic has warranted the implementation of barrier actions and the wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE). These behavioral adaptations counteract spontaneous self-touching reflex gestures. I propose to explore the mind-body experience generated by these gesture changes in this health context.

Background: Migrant adolescents are at a higher risk than their native-born counterparts of psychiatric disorders, and their care is a public health issue. In France, transcultural psychotherapy is a treatment provided by a group of therapists designed to meet the specific needs of these patients when usual care appears ineffective. The objective of this study was to explore the therapeutic elements at work in transcultural psychotherapy.

LKB1 is frequently mutated in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). LKB1-mutated NSCLCs often have a dismal prognosis and receive lower benefit from the currently available therapies. LKB1 acts as a cell emergency brake in low-energy conditions, by modulating the activity of crucial anabolic enzymes.

Production of hydrogen (H) upon hydrolysis of inorganic hydrides potentially is a key step in green energy production. We find that visible-light irradiation of aqueous solutions of ammonia-borane (AB) or NaBH containing "click"-dendrimer-stabilized alloyed nanocatalysts composed of nanogold and another late transition-metal nanoparticle (LTMNP) highly enhances catalytic activity for H generation while also inducing alloy to Au core@M shell nanocatalyst restructuration. In terms of visible-light-induced acceleration of H production from both AB and NaBH, the AuRu alloy catalysts show the most significant light-boosting effect.

Cultural context substantially affects the experience and clinical expression of psychiatric diseases, while cultural factors limit both access to and effectiveness of care, especially for migrant families requiring specific types of services. We conducted a scoping review on psychiatric services adapted to cultural diversity, to compare these models of care to the French Transcultural Psychotherapy model. Systematic electronic search of databases (PubMed and PsycINFO), manual search of archives of journals dealing with transcultural psychiatry, and consultations with international experts, to identify all papers describing clinical models devoted to psychiatric care for migrants, published between January 1990 and October 2018.

The world's largest mineral iron province, Serra dos Carajás, is home to an open vegetation known as canga, found on top of isolated outcrops rising out of the Amazon rainforest. Over one thousand vascular plants species have been recorded in these canga sites, including 38 edaphic endemics. A new survey adds to our investigation of biogeographic relationships between sixteen canga outcrops and the effect of the distance between site pairs on the number of shared species, regional species turnover and species distribution patterns.

Article Synopsis
  • Antibiotic prescriptions for children with acute otitis media and sore throat in Emilia-Romagna decreased significantly (37% from 2005 to 2019) after implementing evidence-based guidelines from the ProBA project.
  • The study investigated whether this reduction in antibiotic use led to an increase in complications such as acute mastoiditis and acute rheumatic fever, finding that rates of mastoiditis and surgical treatments declined, while ARF rates remained stable.
  • The findings support the ProBA project's approach to treating AOM and streptococcal pharyngitis with recommended durations of amoxicillin, showing that less antibiotic use did not result in increased complications.

In lung cancer, CD133+ cells represent the subset of cancer stem cells (CSC) able to sustain tumor growth and metastatic dissemination. CSC function is tightly regulated by specialized niches composed of both stromal cells and extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, mainly represented by collagen. The relevance of collagen glycosylation, a fundamental post-translational modification controlling several biological processes, in regulating tumor cell phenotype remains, however, largely unexplored.

Stormwater infiltration systems (SIS) have been set up to collect and infiltrate urban stormwater runoff in order to reduce flooding and to artificially recharge aquifers. Such practices produce environmental changes in shallow groundwater ecosystems like an increase in organic matter concentrations that could drive changes in structure and functions of groundwater microbial communities. Previous works suggested that SIS influence groundwater physico-chemistry during either rainy and dry period but no study has examined the impact of SIS on groundwater microorganisms during both periods.

Due to an increasing requirement of clean and sustainable hydrogen energy economy, it is significant to develop new highly effective catalysts for electrochemical water splitting. In alkaline electrolyte, Platinum (Pt) shows a much slower hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) kinetics relative to acidic condition. Here, we show a versatile synthetic approach for combining different noble metals, such as Rhodium (Rh), RhPt and Pt nanoparticles, with carbon forming noble metal nanoparticles/nanocarbon composites, denoted as Rh(nP)/nC, RhPt(nP)/nC and Pt(nP)/nC, respectively.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at how giving sex hormones before growth hormone tests helps doctors figure out if kids have growth hormone deficiency (GHD) or just a delay in growth and puberty (CDGP).
  • They examined 184 kids from hospitals in Italy and the UK and saw that kids with GHD did better in terms of growth compared to those with CDGP.
  • The findings suggest that using sex hormones before testing can help diagnose GHD better and that low-dose sex hormones can help kids with CDGP grow better.
