Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) is a rare disease characterized by malignant cells derived from the epithelial cells of the biliary duct system. Despite extensive treatments, the prognosis for CCA remains poor, emphasizing the critical need for the development of novel treatments. Considerable attention has been directed towards innate immune effector cells, which can recognize tumor cells independently of the major histocompatibility complex, laying the foundation for the development of off-the-shelf drugs.

Background: Recent advancements in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treatment have significantly improved primary therapy outcomes owing to the emergence of various molecular targeted therapies and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). However, for Kirsten rat sarcoma viral antigen (KRAS) mutations, molecular targeted drugs, such as sotorasib, are not applicable as first-line treatments, and the optimal primary treatment remains unclear. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the efficacy of ICI combination therapy as first-line treatment for KRAS-mutant NSCLC.

Article Synopsis
  • - This study assessed how accurately SARS-CoV-2 RNA can be detected in saliva samples, comparing those treated with guanidine and without, against traditional nasopharyngeal swabs (NPS) used as a reference.
  • - Results showed that raw saliva had a 100% sensitivity for detecting the virus, while the sensitivity for saliva treated with guanidine-based and guanidine-free inactivators was lower, at 65.9% and 82.9% respectively.
  • - Despite the reduced sensitivity in treated saliva, the study found that these inactivated samples could still provide reliable results for diagnosing COVID-19, which is beneficial for minimizing the risk of virus transmission.

The psychopathology of patients with anorexia nervosa has been hypothesized to involve inappropriate self-referential processing, disturbed interoceptive awareness, and excessive cognitive control, including distorted self-concern, disregard of their own starvation state, and extreme weight-control behavior. We hypothesized that the resting-state brain networks, including the default mode, salience and frontal-parietal networks, might be altered in such patients, and that treatment might normalize neural functional connectivity, with improvement of inappropriate self-cognition. We measured resting-state functional magnetic resonance images from 18 patients with anorexia nervosa and 18 healthy subjects before and after integrated hospital treatment (nourishment and psychological therapy).

Thoracoscopy under local anaesthesia is recommended for malignant tumours with negative pleural effusion cytology. Cryobiopsy from the visceral pleura by thoracoscopy under local anaesthesia can provide more diagnostic options for patients with thoracentesis-negative malignant effusions. Here we present the first case in which this technique was used.

Acetaminophen (APAP) and p-aminophenol (p-AP) are the analogous simple phenolic compounds that undergo sulfate conjugation (sulfation) by cytosolic sulfotransferases. Sulfation is generally thought to lead to the inactivation and disposal of endogenous as well as xenobiotic compounds. This study aimed to investigate the antioxidative effects of O-sulfated form of APAP and p-AP, i.

Background: The development of dentition begins in the embryonic oral cavity and progresses in the branchial arches and alveolar bone. Continuous cellular and molecular crosstalk occurs during crown formation, after which the tooth germ begins to migrate apically through the alveolar process into the oral cavity. It eventually comes in contact with its antagonist in the contralateral jaw to establish functional occlusion.

Human Vγ2Vδ2 (also termed Vγ9Vδ2) T cells play important roles in microbial and tumor immunity by monitoring foreign- and self-prenyl pyrophosphate metabolites in isoprenoid biosynthesis. Accumulation of isoprenoid metabolites after bisphosphonate treatment allows Vγ2Vδ2 T cells to recognize and kill tumors independently of their MHC expression or burden of non-synonymous mutations. Clinical trials with more than 400 patients show that adoptive immunotherapy with Vγ2Vδ2 T cells has few side effects but has resulted in only a few partial and complete remissions.
