Background And Aims: Treating ulcerative colitis (UC) in patients with prior advanced therapy (AT) exposure may be challenging. We report the efficacy and safety of risankizumab, a monoclonal interleukin 23p19 antibody, in patients with UC and prior inadequate response or intolerance to AT (AT-IR).

Methods: In the 12-week phase 3 INSPIRE induction study, patients were randomized to intravenous risankizumab 1200 mg or placebo.

Budget impact analysis of venetoclax for the management of acute myeloid leukemia from the perspective of the social security and the private sector in Argentina.

Objective: This study aimed to estimate the budget impact of the incorporation of venetoclax for the treatment of patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) over 75 years of age or those with comorbidities and contraindications for the use of intensive chemotherapy, from the perspective of the social security and the private third-party payers in Argentina.

Methods: A budget impact model was adapted to estimate the cost difference between the current scenario (azacitidine, decitabine and low doses of cytarabine) and the new scenario (incorporation of venetoclax) for a third-party payer over a time horizon of three years. Input parameters were obtained from a literature review, validated or complemented by expert opinion using a modified Panel Delphi approach.

Development and validation of an in situ and real-time quantification method for bicarbonate, carbonate and orthophosphate ions by ATR FT-IR spectroscopy in aqueous solutions.

Bicarbonate salts are used in various industrial processes and could even serve as an alternative source of carbon in bioprocesses involving photosynthetic organisms. Industrial productions require efficient monitoring and control to ensure that their output will meet target specifications. To this end, a simple and rapid in situ quantification method was developed for bicarbonate, carbonate and phosphate ions using Attenuated Total Reflectance-Fourier Transform Infrared (ATR FT-IR) spectroscopy combined with partial least squares (PLS).

A multifactorial study on nutritional status, binge eating and physical activity as main factors directly influencing body weight in Parkinson's disease.

Weight lossisa multifactorial disorder commonly affecting Parkinson's disease patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between body weight, nutritional status, physical activity, and Parkinson's disease-related factors. A total of 114 consecutive Parkinson's disease patients without dietary restrictions were evaluated prospectively with respect to: nutritional status (Mini Nutritional Assessment), physical activity level (Yale Physical Activity Survey), MDS-UPDRS score, olfactory function, depression, cognitive functionand impulse-control disorders, among other variables.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical and epidemiologic profile of congestive heart failure at the principal free-care hospital in Haiti. Cardiovascular disease represents the most prevalent cause of admissions to the medical service of the University Hospital of the State of Haiti. No previous study has examined the demographics of congestive heart failure in urban Haiti.

Facial tremors in patients with and without parkinsonism.

Facial (lip and jaw) tremors can be an early sign of Parkinson's disease (PD), essential tremor and other parkinsonisms. Its response to acute dopaminergic therapy and further predictive clinical diagnosis has not been previously addressed. The aim of this study was to evaluate facial tremors response to acute dopaminergic therapy and further predictive value for clinical diagnosis.

Influence of handwriting skills during spelling in primary and lower secondary grades.

We sought to identify, the impact of handwriting skills on the efficiency and temporal course of word spelling across Grades 2-9. Eighty-four students, drawn from primary and lower secondary schools, were asked to perform a dictation task to assess their word spelling. They also had to write out the letters of the alphabet, as well as their firstnames and surnames, from memory to assess their handwriting skills.

Stereotype threat strengthens automatic recall and undermines controlled processes in older adults.

The threat of being judged stereotypically (stereotype threat) may impair memory performance in older adults, thereby producing inflated age differences in memory tasks. However, the underlying mechanisms of stereotype threat in older adults or other stigmatized groups remain poorly understood. Here, we offer evidence that stereotype threat consumes working memory resources in older adults.

Antiproliferative activity of violaxanthin isolated from bioguided fractionation of Dunaliella tertiolecta extracts.

Dunaliella tertiolecta (DT) was chemically investigated to isolate molecules inhibiting cancer cell proliferation and inducing apoptosis in vitro. The potency to inhibit cell growth was used for the bio-guided fractionation and isolation of active compounds using chromatographic techniques. The DT dichloromethane extract exhibited a strong anti-proliferative activity on MCF-7 and LNCaP cells, and was further fractionated and sub-fractionated by RP-HPLC.

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome with severe gastrointestinal manifestations in Haiti.

29 patients (19 males and 10 females) in Haiti were diagnosed as having acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. Their clinical presentation was characterised by unexplained chronic diarrhoea, prolonged fever, extreme weight loss, anorexia, and severe infections. The infectious agents included: Candida albicans (27 patients), Mycobacterium tuberculosis (7 patients), Cryptosporidium (11 patients), Pneumocystis carinii (2 patients), cytomegalovirus (4 patients), and herpes virus (3 patients).

The chromosomes of the Canadian Beaver Castor canadensis.

A chromosome analysis of 24 Canadian beavers, Castor canadensis Kuhl (12 males and 12 females), captured in Laurentides Park, Qébec, has been performed from preparations of blood lymphocyte and skin cultures. The chromosome number was found to be 2n = 40. Measurements were made to determine relative lengths and arm ratios of chromosomes, which are metacentric or submetacentric.
