We herein report the synthesis, characterizations, and synchrotron X-ray charge-density studies of oxo-centered triruthenium(II,III,III) clusters [RuO(CHClCOO)(py)] () and [RuO(CHClCOO)(CO)(py)] () (py = pyridine). Dichloroacetate was chosen for its large scattering factor of the Cl atom, and its electron-withdrawing nature results in significant stabilization of the targeted lower-valent Ru state in the cluster framework. Multipole analysis revealed that the difference in electron populations between two crystallographically independent Ru centers is small for (Δ = 0.

We formulated two phase-field models to compute interfacial compositions, characterized by their high computational accuracy and efficiency. The inaugural model utilizes convergence calculations to fulfill the equal diffusion potential condition, while the subsequent model obviates the need for such calculations. Despite this, its computational outcomes strongly agree with those of the preceding model.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates how comorbidities like obesity and diabetes relate to the severity of diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH), a condition more common in older, male, and obese individuals.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 468 patients, finding that those with DISH had higher average BMI and HbA1c levels compared to those without DISH, but the number of vertebral fusions didn't correlate with age, sex, or these comorbidity factors.
  • - The findings suggest that while DISH patients tend to have higher obesity and diabetes measures, these factors do not directly impact the severity of their condition’s ossification, indicating the need for personalized patient care.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aims to define a condition called pre-DISH, which refers to patients who show early signs of diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH) but haven't been officially diagnosed yet, using CT scans to track changes over time.
  • - Researchers analyzed 188 patients who had multiple CT scans over a 5- to 5.2-year period, finding that 19.7% were diagnosed with DISH on their first scan and 25.5% on the second.
  • - They defined pre-DISH based on a modified scoring system, identifying 52 patients with the condition, and noted that 21.2% of these patients developed DISH after five years, suggesting a need for increased awareness of pre

  • The study aimed to analyze the recurrence trends of cholesteatoma after surgery using the Kaplan-Meier method, focusing on factors related to the disease.
  • A retrospective analysis of 256 patients revealed that certain types of cholesteatoma, particularly pars flacida, had a higher likelihood of recurrence, especially within 5 years post-surgery.
  • The findings suggest that understanding these recurrence patterns can help improve follow-up strategies for patients after cholesteatoma surgery.

Understanding the expected efficacy and safety of a new regenerative therapy requires analysis of the fate of the transplanted cell graft. We have shown that transplantation of autologous cultured nasal epithelial cell sheets onto the middle ear mucosa can improve middle ear aeration and hearing. However, it remains unknown whether cultured nasal epithelial cell sheets have the potential to gain mucociliary function in the environment of the middle ear because sampling cell sheets after transplantation is challenging.

With the development of mobile payment, the Internet of Things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI), smart vending machines, as a kind of unmanned retail, are moving towards a new future. However, the scarcity of data in vending machine scenarios is not conducive to the development of its unmanned services. This paper focuses on using machine learning on small data to detect the placement of the spiral rack indicated by the end of the spiral rack, which is the most crucial factor in causing a product potentially to get stuck in vending machines during the dispensation.

Introduction: Early postoperative regeneration of the middle ear mucosa is essential for the prevention of postoperative refractory otitis media and recurrent cholesteatoma. As a means for intractable otitis media management, we focused on human induced pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived airway epithelial cells (AECs), which have been used in upper airway mucosal regeneration and transplantation therapy. In this study, we transplanted hiPSC-derived AECs into the middle ear of immunodeficient rats.

Temporary storage of nasal tissues and nasal cell sheets, which entails transportation between hospitals and cell culture facilities, is an important issue in regenerative medicine. Herein, we investigated the preservation of chilled and frozen nasal tissues and expiry dates of ready-to-use nasal cell sheets. Although the cell number in preserved tissues was lower than that in fresh tissue, nasal cell sheets could be fabricated from tissues that had been refrigerated for 5 days and frozen-thawed over 5 days.
