Background: There is currently little research into factors predicting the results of an initial diagnostic oral food challenge (OFC) test for food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome (FPIES).
Objective: The present study aimed to identify predictors of the diagnosis of hen's egg yolk-induced FPIES (HEY-FPIES).
Methods: The present monocentric study was performed at Tokyo Metropolitan Children's Medical Center and included patients who underwent hen's egg yolk OFC (HEY-OFC) between March 2018 and March 2023 to assess for HEY-FPIES.
Spinal cord stimulation enhanced restoration of motor function following spinal cord injury (SCI) in unblinded studies. To determine whether training combined with transcutaneous electrical spinal cord stimulation (tSCS), with or without systemic serotonergic treatment with buspirone (busp), could improve hand function in individuals with severe hand paralysis following SCI, we assessed ten subjects in a double-blind, sham-controlled, crossover study. All treatments-busp, tSCS, and the busp plus tSCS-reduced muscle tone and spasm frequency.

Methods: This single-center, prospective, observational study was conducted from July 29, 2019 to February 15, 2021 at a children's hospital. Children aged 6 months to 60 months presenting to the emergency department with suspected SFS were included.
Purpose: Nasal screening is performed to avoid the complications of postoperative surgical site infections (SSI), especially those due to antimicrobial-resistant species such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This study examined the relationship between bacterial isolates from the conjunctiva and the nasal cavity.
Methods: All patients were diagnosed with ocular surface infections, and the organisms in the conjunctiva and the nasal cavity were isolated.

Buckwheat (BW) is a major food allergen and one of the leading causes of food-induced anaphylaxis in Japan. The standard method of diagnosing food allergy is the oral food challenge (OFC). The BW-specific IgE (BW-sIgE) value is used to assess BW allergy but its utility is limited.

However, little is known about the effects of BSHE on immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated type I allergic reactions. The anti-allergic effect of BSHE was assessed with the degranulation assay using rat basophilic leukemia RBL-2H3 cells and the passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) reaction in mice.

The new species is distinguished from 28 species of described from the North Pacific by the following combination of characters: mouth oblique; uppermost pectoral-fin base below horizontal through posterior margin of maxillary; 60-63 vertebrae, 54-58 dorsal-fin rays, 50 or 51 anal-fin rays, six principal caudal-fin rays, and 17-20 pectoral-fin rays. A maximum likelihood tree based on 106 COI gene sequences (492 bp) of recovered a monophyletic group comprising , , and .

Methods: In 2015, we conducted a school-based questionnaire survey among two age groups; students in primary school (Years 1-2) and secondary school (Years 8-9) from each of the 47 prefectures of Japan. We analyzed the prevalence, demographic and clinical characteristics of children with oral symptoms to Rosaceae fruits/soybean; defined as oral symptoms occurring shortly after ingesting apple, peach, cherry or soybean.
Background: Anaphylactic reactions to opioids are rare. We report a case of an infant who experienced fentanyl-induced anaphylaxis.
Case Presentation: A 2-month-old male was scheduled to undergo a Blalock-Taussig shunt.
Background: Global surveys and cohort studies have been conducted to evaluate the prevalence of allergic disease in childhood, but only a few nationwide surveys have been conducted in Japan. We aimed to report the prevalence of childhood allergic disease in Japan and determine the prevalence distribution by sex and prefecture.
Methods: In 2015, we conducted a school-based questionnaire survey using the Japanese version of the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood questionnaire among two age groups: primary school students (PS, 6-8 years old) and middle school students (MS, 13-15 years old).
The combined effects of cervical electrical stimulation alone or in combination with the monoaminergic agonist buspirone on upper limb motor function were determined in six subjects with motor complete (AIS B) injury at C5 or above and more than one year from time of injury. Voluntary upper limb function was evaluated through measures of controlled hand contraction, handgrip force production, dexterity measures, and validated clinical assessment batteries. Repeated measure analysis of variance was used to evaluate functional metrics, EMG amplitude, and changes in mean grip strength.

In resource-limited settings, symptomatic screening, and syndromic management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) during pregnancy continue to be the standard of care. In the absence of diagnostic testing, asymptomatic infections in pregnant women go untreated.

Methods: Consenting HIV-infected pregnant women were recruited from clinics in South Africa and screened for T. vaginalis using PCR.
In this study, the heteropolyacids of H3+xPVxMO12-xO40 (x = 0, 2, and 3) were applied as redox mediators for the oxygen reduction reaction in polymer electrolyte fuel cells, of which the cathode is free from the usage of noble metals such as Pt/C. In this system, the electrochemical reduction of heteropolyacid over the carbon cathode and the subsequent reoxidation of the partially reduced heteropolyacid by exposure to the dissolved oxygen in the regenerator are important processes for continuous power generation. Thus, the redox properties of catholytes containing these heteropolyacids were investigated in detail.

Meaningful improvement in hand function is rare after 1 year of tetraparesis. Therapeutic developments that result in even modest gains in hand volitional function will significantly affect the quality of life for patients afflicted with high cervical injury.

Herein we introduce a novel and noninvasive stimulation strategy of painless transcutaneous electrical enabling motor control and a pharmacological enabling motor control strategy to neuromodulate the physiological state of the spinal cord. This neuromodulation enabled the spinal locomotor networks of individuals with motor complete paralysis for 2-6 years American Spinal Cord Injury Association Impairment Scale (AIS) to be re-engaged and trained.

Since redox associated shifts among most of known Se species can occur at environmentally relevant conditions, it is important to identify these species in order to assess their potential toxicity to organisms. In June of 2009, researchers from the US Army Engineer Research & Development Center (ERDC) conducted investigations of the fly ash spilled 6 months previously into the Emory River at the TVA Kingston Fossil Plant, TN.

Among the numbers of therapeutic trials to prevent and ameliorate neurological deterioration due to SVS, removal or quenching of oxy-hemoglobin (OxyHb) from subarachnoid colts and administration of Mg(2+) (Mg) have especially been expected to be effective. In this report the authors investigated the effect of continuous cisternal irrigation (CCI) with mock CSF containing ascorbic acid (ASA) and Mg, performed after early surgery for ruptured aneurysm.
