Silver nanoparticles exert high antibacterial activity and thus have been used in polymeric formulations for drug delivery. In recent years, polymeric formulations containing silver nanoparticles have been found to be highly effective against biofilm infections, which are difficult to treat with drugs only. However, the antibacterial effects of silver nanoparticles in polymer composites depending on administration time are still unknown.

However, we suspect a lack of knowledge of and/or adherence to osteoarthritis CPGs in physiotherapists' clinical practice. There may be an evidence-to-practice gap in knee osteoarthritis rehabilitation among Japanese physiotherapists.

On the other hand, the role in multiple sclerosis (MS), inflammatory demyelinating disease in the central nervous system (CNS), is largely unknown, although the presence of anti-glycolipid antibodies was reported to differ among MS patients with relapsing-remitting (RR), primary progressive (PP), and secondary progressive (SP) disease courses. We investigated whether the induction of anti-glycolipid antibodies could differ among experimental MS models with distinct clinical courses, depending on induction methods.

For such cases, we perform a 2-stage external PMMF transfer, whereby the PMMF is directly sutured to the defect over the neck skin (without manipulation the hardened skin), and the flap division is then performed secondarily.
Methods: A total of 30 patients who had histories of radiotherapy (60-70 Gy) and prior neck dissection received the 2-stage external PMMF transfer procedure.
Forest carbon stocks and sinks (CSSs) have been widely estimated using climate classification tables and linear regression (LR) models with common independent variables (IVs) such as the average diameter at breast height (DBH) of stems and root shoot ratio. However, this approach is relatively ineffective when the explanatory power of IVs is lower than that of unobservable variables. Various environmental and anthropogenic factors affect target variables that cause the correlation between them to be chaotic.

Mesenchymal cells are necessary for organ development. In the lung, distal tip fibroblasts contribute to alveolar and airway epithelial cell differentiation and homeostasis. Here, we report a method for generating human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived mesenchymal cells (iMESs) that can induce human iPSC-derived alveolar and airway epithelial lineages in organoids via epithelial-mesenchymal interaction, without the use of allogenic fetal lung fibroblasts.

Here, we established a novel in vitro pulmonary fibrosis model using alveolar organoids consisting of human pluripotent stem cell-derived alveolar epithelial cells and primary human lung fibroblasts. In this human model, bleomycin treatment induced phenotypes such as epithelial cell-mediated fibroblast activation, cellular senescence, and presence of alveolar epithelial cells in abnormal differentiation states.

Mice lacking pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP) display psychomotor abnormalities, most of which are ameliorated by atypical antipsychotics with serotonin (5-HT) 2A receptor (5-HT) antagonism. Heterozygous mutant mice show a significantly higher hallucinogenic response than wild-type mice to a 5-HT agonist. Endogenous PACAP may, therefore, affect 5-HT signaling; however, the underlying neurobiological mechanism for this remains unclear.

Although conjugation factors encoded on plasmids have been extensively analyzed, those on the donor chromosome have not. To identify the potential conjugation factor(s), a genome-wide survey on a comprehensive collection of gene knockout mutants (Keio collection) as donors to recipients was performed using a conjugal transfer system mediated by the type IV secretion system (T4SS) of the IncP1α plasmid.

Small individuals may exhibit similar growth curves, but the curves differ from those of large individuals, whereby the curves gradually vary from small to large individuals. It has been recognized that after standardization with the asymptotes, if all the growth curves are the same (anamorphic growth curve set), the growth curve sets can be estimated using nonchronological data; otherwise, that is, if the growth curves are not identical after standardization with the asymptotes (polymorphic growth curve set), this estimation is not feasible.

Mobilization to Escherichia coli of the former plasmid is much more efficient than that of the latter, whereas an entirely reverse relationship is observed in transfer to yeast.

The conjugal transfer is a major driving force in the spread of antibiotic resistance genes. Nevertheless, an effective approach has not yet been developed to target conjugal transfer to prevent the acquisition of antibiotic resistance by this mechanism. This study aimed to identify potential targets for plasmid transfer blockade by isolating mutants defective in the completion of the acquisition of antibiotic resistance via conjugal transfer.

However, current statistical shape models (SSM) based on principal component analysis represent gross shape variations without considering the association with the fibrosis stage. Therefore, we aimed at the application of a statistical shape modelling approach using partial least squares regression (PLSR), which explicitly uses the stage as supervised information, for understanding the shape variations associated with the stage as well as predicting it in contrast-enhanced MR images.
