In this study, 365 bacteria and 105 yeast strains isolated from 11 cheese brines were qualitatively tested for proteolytic and lipolytic activities, and positive strains were identified by sequencing. Among bacteria, Staphylococcus equorum was the most frequent, followed by Macrococcus caseolyticus and Corynebacterium flavescens.

During the course of the EU H2020 OLEUM project, a harmonized method was developed to quantify volatile markers of the aroma of virgin olive oil with the aim to support the work of sensory panel test to assess the quality grade. A peer validation of this method has been carried out, with good results in terms of analytical quality parameters. The method allows the quantification of volatile compounds by SPME-GC with two possible detectors, flame ionization detector and mass spectrometry, depending on the technical facilities of the labs applying this method.

However, a faster phenological advancement caused by global warming exposes bud tissue to a higher risk of spring frost damage. Tissue dehydration and soluble sugars accumulation are connected to freezing tolerance, but non-structural carbohydrates also act as metabolic substrates and signaling molecules.

However, mechanistic insights on their exact cellular metabolism over time are mostly lacking. We combined ion-pair ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry mass spectrometry using tributyl- and triethylamine buffers for sensitive analysis of sugar metabolites in cells and organisms and identified low abundant nucleotide sugars, such as UDP-arabinose in human cell lines and CMP-sialic acid (CMP-NeuNAc) in Drosophila.

Here, we argue that COVAX should anticipate important and unforeseen challenges with regard to sanctioned countries. For those, COVAX needs to provide a higher percentage of the vaccines.

Purpose: To describe a series of non-immediate drug hypersensitivity reactions after intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factors (anti-VEGFs).
Patients And Methods: Retrospective report of 6 patients with cutaneous non-immediate drug hypersensitivity reactions following intravitreal anti-VEGF injections, 4 after ranibizumab, 1 after bevacizumab and 1 after aflibercept.
Results: Clinical manifestations ranged from mild maculopapular rash, purpura to severe generalized erythroderma, with or without systemic involvement such as microscopic hematuria and proteinuria or fever.
Minor compounds in vegetable oils are distributed between free and esterified forms, and the ratio of these two fractions could represent an important parameter for assessment of oil authenticity. A simple method based on offline SPE-GC-FID for the analysis of free and esterified hydroxylated minor compounds in olive and sunflower oils has been developed and in-house validated. A satisfactory repeatability relative standard deviation (<7.

This disease has been associated with inflammatory-induced homeostasis changes leading to endothelial dysfunction and a procoagulant state with multi-organ involvement, but the burden of thromboembolic complications in COVID-19 patients is currently unknown. The pathogenesis of retinal artery occlusions is a multifactorial process where inflammation and hypercoagulation state are established risk factors.

Overexpression of NNMT is associated with a variety of diseases, including a number of cancers and metabolic disorders, suggesting a role for NNMT as a potential therapeutic target. By structural modification of a lead NNMT inhibitor previously developed in our group, we prepared a diverse library of inhibitors to probe the different regions of the enzyme's active site.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFNicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT) is an enzyme that catalyses the methylation of nicotinamide to form N'-methylnicotinamide. Both NNMT and its methylated product have recently been linked to a variety of diseases, suggesting a role for the enzyme as a therapeutic target beyond its previously ascribed metabolic function in detoxification. We here describe the systematic development of NNMT inhibitors derived from the structures of the substrates involved in the methylation reaction.

The most notable is the PRMT-mediated methylation of arginine residues that are present in histone proteins which can lead to chromatin remodelling and influence gene transcription. A growing body of evidence now implicates dysregulated PRMT activity in a number of diseases including various forms of cancer.

Maintaining vascular barrier competence, preventing interstitial edema, and keeping microcirculation intact is crucial to achieve an optimal outcome in cardiopulmonary bypass surgery (CPB). Blood contact with roller pumps and foreign surfaces during CPB induces shear stress and a pressure drop across the pump boot that leads to transient systemic activation of the inflammatory and hemostatic systems. Moreover, patients after CPB often need volume resuscitation using the smallest possible amount of colloid solution because of fluid overload.

The two most potent analogues identified contain relatively small N-guanidine substituents (N-methyl and N-hydroxyl) and display enhanced inhibition with IC50 values in the low nanomolar range against neuraminidases from wild-type and oseltamivir-resistant strains. Potential advantages of including the N-hydroxyguanidine moiety in neuraminidase inhibitors are also discussed.
