The extraction of nickel (Ni) from ultramafic soils by phytomining can be achieved using Alyssum murale cultures. This study presents a new process for the valorization of Ni accumulated by this plant through the production of a Ni ammonium disulfate salt (Ni(NH(4))(2)(SO(4))(2).6H(2)O).

Objective: To assess the risk of total malignancy and nonmelanoma skin cancers (NMSC) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) receiving certolizumab and golimumab through a metaanalysis of data from randomized control trials (RCT).

Methods: We systematically reviewed the literature up to May 2011 in Medline databases, as well as abstracts from the 2009 and 2010 annual meetings of the European League Against Rheumatism and the American College of Rheumatology. Mantel-Haenszel method was used to determine a common odds ratio (OR).

Visible light induced photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI) over polymer-sensitized TiO2 and its synergism with phenol oxidation.

In this study, both Cr(VI) reduction and phenol oxidation induced by polymer-sensitized TiO(2) were investigated under visible light. Study of the reaction mechanism indicated that poly(fluorene-co-thiophene) (PFT) acted as a semiconductor and was by itself able to reduce Cr(VI) under visible light irradiation. When coupled with TiO(2), PFT served not only as the electron donor for Cr(VI) reduction, but also as a sensitizer.

In-depth molecular and phenotypic characterization in a rice insertion line library facilitates gene identification through reverse and forward genetics approaches.

We report here the molecular and phenotypic features of a library of 31,562 insertion lines generated in the model japonica cultivar Nipponbare of rice (Oryza sativa L.), called Oryza Tag Line (OTL). Sixteen thousand eight hundred and fourteen T-DNA and 12,410 Tos17 discrete insertion sites have been characterized in these lines.

The collaboration of grouping laws in vision.

Gestalt theory gives a list of geometric grouping laws that could in principle give a complete account of human image perception. Based on an extensive thesaurus of clever graphical images, this theory discusses how grouping laws collaborate, and conflict toward a global image understanding. Unfortunately, as shown in the bibliographical analysis herewith, the attempts to formalize the grouping laws in computer vision and psychophysics have at best succeeded to compute individual partial structures (or partial gestalts), such as alignments or symmetries.

Effect of TNF inhibitors on lipid profile in rheumatoid arthritis: a systematic review with meta-analysis.

Background: Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease. Lipid changes related to inflammation have been described in RA. Tumour necrosis factor α (TNFα) inhibitor (TNFi) treatment is effective in controlling inflammation and decreasing the number of cardiovascular events.

Sample size determination for alternate periods of use study designs with binary responses.

In this article, we consider several study designs that arise in practice, which are variations of standard crossover designs. Often, they may result from modifications made to a standard crossover design due to practical considerations. Characteristic features of the studies we are concerned with are (a) treatments consist of external use of products with little or no possibility of carry over effects, and (b) the periods of use are dictated by the subjects or by some specific event, such as diaper leakage or menstrual flow.

We assessed the efficacy and safety of rituximab in a real-life clinical setting among patients with systemic rheumatoid vasculitis (SRV).

Methods: We analyzed data from the AutoImmunity and Rituximab registry, which includes patients with autoimmune diseases treated with rituximab.

Due to human activities, large volumes of soils are contaminated with organic pollutants such as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, and very often by metallic pollutants as well. Multipolluted soils are therefore a key concern for remediation. This work presents a long-term evaluation of the fate and environmental impact of the organic and metallic contaminants of an industrially polluted soil under natural and plant-assisted conditions.

How phytohormone IAA and chelator EDTA affect lead uptake by Zn/Cd hyperaccumulator Picris divaricata.

In this paper, the effects of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and/or ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) on lead uptake by a Zn/Cd hyperaccumulator Picris divaricata were studied. P. divaricata responded to Pb by better root system and increased biomass in presence of phytohormone IAA, which was able to reduce the inhibiting effects of Pb on transpiration without reducing the uptake of Pb The application of 100 microM IAA increased plant transpiration rate by about 20% and Pb concentration in leaves by about 37.
