The most common genetic cause of frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an intronic GC repeat expansion in C9orf72. The repeats undergo bidirectional transcription to produce sense and antisense repeat RNA species, which are translated into dipeptide repeat proteins (DPRs). The diabetic foot consumes a large number of resources and has a profound negative impact on quality of life, representing the major non-traumatic cause of lower limb amputation in adults. The present report describes a diabetic patient with a recurrent plantar ulcer in the topography of the heads of the second, third, and fourth metatarsals. The Peruvian fauna of aquatic and semiaquatic bugs comprises 233 species, representing 70 genera, 15 tribes, 29 subfamilies, and 16 families. Many of these species (22%) are endemic to the country, while 49% occur in Peru and other South American countries, 21% are found throughout the Neotropics, and 8% are widely distributed in the Americas. These proportions are similar among the three infraorders treated here.

Semiaquatic bugs of the subfamily Microveliinae (Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Gerridae) live in a wide range of habitats, including streams, rivers, lakes, lagoons, estuaries, mangroves, caves, crab holes, tree holes and bromeliads. A total of 120 species has been recorded from the Neotropical region, of which 11 bear modified pretarsal structures on the middle leg. They belong to the genera Euvelia Drake, 1957 (seven Neotropical species), Husseyella Herring, 1955 (three Neotropical species), and Xiphovelia Lundblad, 1933 (mainly Asian genus with one Neotropical species assigned to it).
