Introduction: Most studies have shown a declining incidence of upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) in recent years. Data regarding mortality were controversial; in non-variceal bleeding, the increasing age of the population, increased use of anti-thrombotic and anticoagulant therapy in patients with cardiovascular diseases, and the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are counterbalanced by the progress in endoscopic therapy with stable mortality.
Material And Method: We performed a retrospective, cross-sectional study that included patients admitted with UGIB in Clinical Emergency Hospital Craiova during 2013-2020.
Background: Brain metastases (BM) from gastric cancer (GC) are rare but associated with poor prognosis, significantly impacting patient survival and quality of life. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to consolidate existing research on BM from GC, evaluate the incidence and clinical outcomes, and explore the effectiveness of treatment options.
Methods: A systematic search was conducted across the Medline, Web of Science, and Scopus databases, following PRISMA guidelines.
The incidence of peptic ulcers has decreased during the last decades; the COVID-19 pandemic may have influenced the peptic ulcer hospitalizations. The study aimed to assess the admissions and mortality for complicated and uncomplicated peptic ulcers and the influence of the pandemic period. Material and We performed an observational study at a tertiary academic center, including all patients admitted for peptic ulcers between 2017-2021.

However, the NLR's role in mortality prediction was poorly evaluated in the literature.
Patients And Methods: We performed a retrospective, cross-sectional study to analyze the role of NLR0 (at admission) and NLR48 (at 48 hours) in acute pancreatitis as compared with CRP, BISAP, SOFA, and modified CTSI (mCTSI) for the prediction of mortality and severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) in patients admitted into the Emergency Clinical County Hospital of Craiova during 48 months.
Due to the expansion of the use of powder bed fusion metal additive technologies in the medical field, especially for the realization of dental prostheses, in this paper, the authors propose a comparative experimental study of the mechanical characteristics and the state of their microscale surfaces. The comparison was made from material considerations starting from two dental alloys commonly used to realize dental prostheses: Ni-Cr and Co-Cr, but also technologies for obtaining selective laser melting (SLM) and conventional casting. In addition, to compare the performances with the classical casting technology, for the dental prostheses obtained through SLM, the post-processing stage in which they are in a preliminary finishing and polished state was considered.

One of the core proteins that regulates inter-cellular adhesion, E-cadherin plays important roles in tumorigenesis as well as in tumor progression; however, the exact expression changes and modulation that occur in gastric cancer are not yet fully understood. In an attempt to estimate if the synthesis/degradation balance matches the final membrane expression of this adhesion molecule in cancer tissue, we assessed the proportion of E-cadherin that is found in the Golgi vesicles as well as in the lysosomal pathway We utilized archived tissue fragments from 18 patients with well and poorly differentiated intestinal types of gastric cancer and 5 samples of normal gastric mucosa, by using high-magnification multispectral microscopy and high-resolution fluorescence deconvolution microscopy.

An increasing number of tumor markers have been discovered to have potential efficacy as diagnostic and prognostic tools in gastric cancer. We aimed to assess putative correlations between claudin 18.2 expression and pathological or prognosis features in patients with gastric cancer.

One of the most important prognostic parameters is the tumor's stage at the time of the diagnosis. T4 cancers represent advanced tumors associated with penetration of the visceral peritoneum (T4a) and/or direct invasion in adjacent structures (T4b).

The upper endoscopy was negative, but the barium meal discovered an apparently extrinsic duodenal (D3) stenosis; abdominal ultrasound diagnosed a left liver mass suggesting a metastatic tumor. The hematochezia relapse, with hemodynamic instability imposed emergency surgery; on laparotomy, a bleeding tumor located on the duodenopancreatic region was discovered, and a pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (Traverso-Longmire) was performed.

To ensure an accurate staging, there are necessary imaging tests to establish the local and regional extension, as well as excluding the metastases. Computed tomography (CT), endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS), and positron emission computed tomography (PET-CT) constitute standard methods for esophageal cancer staging.

The medical challenge can be even greater since esophageal carcinoma can evolve concomitant to another malignant tumor with different localization. This paper's aim is to present a case of squamous esophageal cancer associated to another primitive malignant tumor-malignant pericolic conjunctive tumor, this kind of association being singular in medical literature from our knowledge.

The number of examined lymph nodes represents a significant predictor of survival. This study aims to show the importance of SLN histological and immunohistochemical examination in adjuvant oncological treatment.

The aim of this work is to present a case of synchronous esophageal squamous carcinoma with mucinous adenocarcinoma of the hepatic angle of the colon. The patient was hospitalized to our Surgical Clinic with the thoracic squamous esophageal carcinoma diagnosis.

Aim: Medical records from 2010-2014 were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed in view of determining the correlations between the clinical severity of atopic dermatitis (AD) and total IgE level, eosinophilia, place of residence, family history of atopy, type of birth, and natural or artificial feeding.
Material And Methods: Following medical record review, 296 cases diagnosed with AD were included in the study. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS v20 for determining the frequency and testing the hypotheses, for p < 0.
Colorectal cancer appears to be one of the most important malignancies in the world, with a survival rate depending on the TNM stage. The presence of lymph nodes metastasis indicates the necessity of adjuvant chemotherapy but exact classification of the N stage requires at least 12 lymph nodes to be pathologically examined. The sentinel lymph node (SLN) is considered to be the closest lymph node to the tumor, bearing the highest risk of malignant cells colonization.

Material And Methods: Our prospective study consists in standard immunohistochemistry procedures using CD34, CD31 and CD105 antibodies, which were performed on 25 samples of rectal carcinoma, in order to determine intratumoral microvessel density.
Results: The 25 case study group was divided either by histopathological type or by prior radiotherapeutical treatment as follows: 9 cases of mucinous carcinoma versus 16 cases of adenocarcinoma and 13 cases of rectal cancer that have not received neoadjuvant radiotherapy versus 12 cases of rectal cancer with preoperatory radiotherapy.
The aim of this paper is to present the case of an extrarenal retroperitoneal angiomyolipoma with unusual evolution, due to the herniation through the inguinal canal, determining an extraperitoneal hernia. A ureteral duplicity and associated hydronephrosis contributed to the peculiarity of the case. The case was operated (en block tumor and right kidney removal), the postoperative evolution being favorable at seven years after the surgery.

Spasticity represents an important feature of the upper motoneuron syndrome (UMNS). The clinical signs, such as the abnormal movement models, the unwanted muscular co-contractions, the muscular and joint rigidity with a consecutive deformity can be signs of spasticity and, also of upper motoneuron lesion. The different therapeutic options applied in the management of spasticity are a basic component of UMNS treatment scheme.
