A Single Center 11 Year Experience with 202 Pancreas Transplants in the New Millennium: Evolving Trends.

Unlabelled: Our single center experience with pancreas transplantation (PTx) over an 11+ year period is reviewed.

Methods: We retrospectively studied outcomes in 202 consecutive PTxs in 192 patients at our center. All patients received either rabbit anti-thymocyte globulin (rATG) or alemtuzumab (Alem) induction with tacrolimus/mycophenolate mofetil and tapered steroids or early withdrawal.

Seasonality of mortality: the September phenomenon in Mediterranean countries.

Background: Seasonal increases in the mortality rate have been associated with excessively cold or hot weather. We evaluated monthly patterns of mortality in selected countries.

Methods: We analyzed all-cause mortality statistics from 5 European Mediterranean countries (Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Spain), Sweden, North America (United States and Canada), Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

Objective: To compare fluoroquinolones to beta-lactams for the treatment of osteomyelitis.

Summary Of Background Data: Treatment of osteomyelitis remains a real challenge in medicine necessitating the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics, because of the variety of the pathogens causing the infection and the fact that the infected bone may become necrotic and avascular, preventing systemic antibiotics from adequately penetrating to the infection site.
