Sex-determining region Y box 2 (Sox2) is a critical transcription factor for embryogenesis and neural stem and progenitor cell (NSPC) maintenance. While distal enhancers control Sox2 in embryonic stem cells (ESCs), enhancers closer to the gene are implicated in Sox2 transcriptional regulation in neural development. We hypothesize that a downstream enhancer cluster, termed Sox2 regulatory regions 2-18 (SRR2-18), regulates Sox2 transcription in neural stem cells and we investigate this in NSPCs derived from mouse ESCs.

Herein, we report a formal C-C bond azidation and cyanation of unactivated aliphatic ketones using commercially available tosyl azide and cyanide, respectively. A visible-light-mediated organophotocatalyst enables radical azidation and cyanation of ketone-derived pro-aromatic dihydroquinazolinones (under mostly redox-neutral conditions) as supported by preliminary mechanistic studies. These metal-free and scalable protocols can be used to synthesize tertiary, secondary, and primary alkyl azides and nitriles with good functional group tolerance and postsynthetic diversification of the azide group, including bioconjugation.

This case series explores four distinct instances of encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis (EPS), a rare but serious condition characterized by the encapsulation of abdominal viscera, commonly referred to as abdominal cocoon. EPS is associated with severe complications, including bowel obstruction and sepsis, which can significantly impact patient outcomes. The first case involves a 41-year-old male patient who had undergone a liver transplant and ultimately succumbed to extensively drug-resistant (XDR) sepsis.

Enhancers play a critical role in regulating precise gene expression patterns essential for development and cellular identity; however, how gene-enhancer specificity is encoded within the genome is not clearly defined. To investigate how this specificity arises within topologically associated domains (TAD), we performed allele-specific genome editing of sequences surrounding the Lefty1 and Lefty2 paralogs in mouse embryonic stem cells. The Lefty genes arose from a tandem duplication event and these genes interact with each other in chromosome conformation capture assays which place these genes within the same TAD.

Concurrent tubercular involvement of two or more non-contiguous organs is termed disseminated tuberculosis (TB) and is rare in immunocompetent patients. We describe the case of a young immunocompetent woman with disseminated TB who presented with primary complaints of amenorrhea and dysuria. Abdominal ultrasound showed a uterine cervical mass, which on histopathological evaluation revealed epithelioid granulomata with Langhans giant cells and acid-fast bacilli (AFB).

In the present work, we have explored a series of unsaturated hexa-18-crown-6 (U18C6) ligands towards designing highly anisotropic Dy(III) based single-ion magnets (SIMs) with the general formula [Dy(U18C6)X] (where U18C6 = [CHO] (1), [CHS] (2), [CHSe] (3), [CHOS] (4), [CHOSe] (5) and X = F, Cl, Br, I, OBu and OSiPh). By analysing the electronic structure, bonding and magnetic properties, we find that the U18C6 ligands prefer stabilising the highly symmetric eight-coordinated hexagonal bipyramidal geometry (HBPY-8), which is the source of the near-Ising type anisotropy in all the [Dy(U18C6)X] complexes. Moreover, the ability of sulfur/selenium substituted U18C6 ligands to stabilize the highly anisotropic HBPY-8 geometry makes them more promising towards engineering the equatorial ligand field compared to substituted saturated 18C6 ligands where the exodentate arrangement of the S lone pairs results in low symmetry.

New strategies for enhancement of the fuel-cell performance of a poly(2,5-benzimidazole) (ABPBI) membrane loaded with a functionalized cobalt-based metal-organic framework (MOF) for H-O fuel cells. ABPBI was prepared using the polycondensation method, and various proportions of sulfonated cobalt MOF (sCo-MOF) were incorporated into ABPBI to fabricate a proton-exchange membrane (PEM). Physiochemical properties of polycaprolactone-hydroxyapatite (PCL-HAp) composites were investigated in the pristine and after irradiation of γ rays (25, 50, 75, and 100 kGy). PCL-HAp composites were synthesized by solvent evaporation and characterized using spectroscopic methods as well as biological assays. The surface roughness (RMS) of the irradiated composite film (at 75 kGy) was 80 times higher than that of the pristine.

We report three Co-based complexes with the general formula [Co(L)(X)] by changing the halide/pseudo-halide ions [X = NCSe (1SeCN); Cl (2Cl) and Br (3Br)]. The obtained and values confirm a distorted square pyramidal geometry around the Co ion in all these complexes. In these three complexes, the central Co ion is situated above the basal plane of the square pyramidal geometry.

In this article, we have thoroughly studied the electronic structure and 4f-ligand covalency of six mononuclear dysprosium organometallic sandwich complexes [Dy(CR)] (where R = H, SiH, CH; = 4 to 9; = 1, 3) using both the scalar relativistic density functional and complete active space self-consistent field (CASSCF) and N-electron valence perturbation theory (NEVPT2) method to shed light on the ligand field effects in fine-tuning the magnetic anisotropy of these complexes. Energy decomposition analysis (EDA) and -based ligand field theory AILFT calculations predict the sizable 4f-ligand covalency in all these complexes. The analysis of CASSCF/NEVPT2 computed spin-Hamiltonian (SH) parameters indicates the stabilization of |±15/2〉 for [Dy(C(SiH))] (1), [Dy(C(CH))] (2) and [Dy(CH)] (3) complexes with the value of 1867.
