375 case studies from 120 publications published over the last three decades on forensic entomology were reviewed to determine how many carcass-associated insects have been described globally and which species are relatively important among carcass-associated insects. A total of 1213 carcass-associated insects belonging to 91 families of 10 orders were described from 375 case studies in nine habitat types of 30 countries with 24 subjects including humans and non-human animals. There were 564 and 515 species from the orders Diptera and Coleoptera, respectively, which was almost 90% of the total species recorded.

Purpose: An intervention including business training and health education was implemented in Mozambique, where girls are at elevated risk for acquiring HIV. As part of a mixed-methods evaluation, we describe perceived effects of the intervention on girls' sexual behavior and school attendance.
Methods: We conducted 49 in-depth interviews (IDIs) with girl intervention participants (ages 13-19), 24 IDIs with heads of girls' households, 36 IDIs with influential males identified by girls, and 12 focus group discussions with community members after the intervention ended and one year later.

In this study, we characterized and compared the responses of the human mast cell line, LAD2, and human lung epithelial cell line, Calu-3, against three influenza A virus strains; A/PR/8/34 (H1N1), A/WS/33 (H1N1) and A/HK/8/68 (H3N2). To provide insights into its lignocellulose hydrolysate utilization, we performed C-pathway tracing, C-pulse-tracing, transcriptional profiling, biomass composition analysis, and metabolite profiling in conjunction with C-metabolic flux analysis (C-MFA) of phenol metabolism. We found that 1) phenol is metabolized mainly through the ortho-cleavage pathway; 2) phenol utilization requires a highly active TCA cycle; 3) NADPH is generated mainly via NADPH-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase; 4) active cataplerotic fluxes increase plasticity in the TCA cycle; and 5) gluconeogenesis occurs partially through the reversed Entner-Doudoroff pathway (EDP).
