Background: Partial nephrectomy is the preferred treatment option for the management of small renal masses. On-clamp partial nephrectomy is associated with a risk of ischemia and a greater loss of postoperative renal function, while the off-clamp procedure decreases the duration of renal ischemia, leading to better renal function preservation. However, the efficacy of the off- versus on-clamp partial nephrectomy for renal function preservation remains debatable.

Background: Surgery remains the standard of care for localised renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Nevertheless, nearly 50% of patients with high-risk disease experience relapse after surgery, with distant sites being common. Considering improved outcomes in terms of disease-free survival with adjuvant immunotherapy with pembrolizumab, we hypothesise that neoadjuvant SABR with or without the addition of pembrolizumab before nephrectomy will lead to improved disease outcomes by evoking better immune response in the presence of an extensive reserve of tumor-associated antigens.

The important pathway toward liver fibrosis is the TGF-β1-induced activation of hepatic stellate cells (HSCs). To discover chemicals to inhibit liver fibrosis, we screened 3000 chemicals using cell array system where human HSCs line LX2 cells are activated with TGF-β1. We discovered 3,7-dimethoxyflavone (3,7-DMF) as a chemical to inhibit TGF-β1-induced activation of HSCs.

The recently defined type of cell death ferroptosis has garnered significant attention as a potential new approach to cancer treatment owing to its more immunogenic nature when compared with apoptosis. Ferroptosis is characterized by the depletion of glutathione (GSH)/glutathione peroxidase-4 (GPx4) and iron-dependent lipid peroxidation. Diplacone (DP), a geranylated flavonoid compound found in fruit, has been identified to have anti-inflammatory and anti-radical activity.

Context: Prostate cancer (PCa) remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in men worldwide. Men at risk are typically offered multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging and, if suspicious, a targeted biopsy. However, false-negative rates of magnetic resonance imaging are consistently 18%; therefore, there is growing interest in improving the diagnostic performance of imaging through novel technologies.

The use of metal-organic compounds as electrocatalysts for water splitting reactions has gained increased attention; however, a fundamental understanding of the structural requirement for effective catalytic activity is still limited. Herein, we synthesized water-coordinated mono and bimetallic copper complexes (CuPz-HO·HO, CuPz-HO, CuBipy-HO·HO, and CuMorph-HO) with varied intermetallic spacing (pyrazine/4,4'-bipyridine) and explored the structure-dependent oxygen evolution reaction (OER) activity in alkaline medium. Single crystal structural studies revealed water-coordinated monometallic complexes (CuMorph-HO) and bimetallic complexes (CuPz-HO·HO, CuPz-HO, CuBipy-HO·HO).

Two-dimensional (2D) materials and their heterostructures are promising for next-generation optoelectronics, spintronics, valleytronics, and electronics. Despite recent progress in various growth studies of 2D materials, mechanical exfoliation of flakes is still the most common method to obtain high-quality 2D materials because precisely controlling material growth and synthesizing a single domain during the growth process of 2D materials, for the desired shape and quality, is challenging. Here, we report the nucleation and growth behaviors of monolayer MoS by sulfurizing a faceted monoclinic MoO crystal.
