The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to determine the association between rheumatoid arthritis and periodontal disease. This systematic review and meta-analysis of the scientific literature was carried out based on the recommendations of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). We analyzed all studies that evaluated the relationship between the chronic inflammatory diseases through the response to non-surgical periodontal treatment, comparing the values of CAL (Clinical Attachment Level) for PD (periodontal disease) and DAS28 for RA.

Aim: To estimate the prevalence of early childhood caries and to study a possible influence on different ethnicities in preschool children aged 3 to 5 with social exclusion risk.

Background: Oral diseases are a major global public health problem, with negative effects at both individual and collective levels, and there is a relationship between socioeconomic characteristics such as income, occupation and educational level, with the prevalence and severity of oral diseases.

Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted in a sample of 288 preschool children belonging to three schools in the Southeastern Spain among other variables dmft and ICDASS index.

The primary objective of this research is to analyze and compare the effects of physical activity on patients diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a condition characterized by repeated episodes of partial or complete obstruction of the upper airway during sleep, leading to disrupted sleep and various health complications. A systematic and strategic search of 16 peer-reviewed articles was conducted to assess the impact of different types of physical exercise on the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI), a key metric used to quantify the severity of OSA. The selected studies focused on two main exercise modalities: aerobic exercise alone and a combination of aerobic and resistance training.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explores the impact of gingivitis on inflammation and cardiovascular risks in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
  • The research involved three groups of participants: two with PCOS (one with gingivitis and one without) and a control group, all assessed for various health indicators and inflammatory markers.
  • Results indicated that PCOS patients, especially those with gingivitis, had higher levels of systemic inflammation and more aggressive neutrophil behavior, which may increase the risk of atherosclerosis.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates how different characteristics of patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can predict their response to mandibular advancement devices (MAD) and aims to create a model for treatment efficacy.
  • It analyzed 112 patients over six years, categorizing OSA into different phenotypes, with findings indicating that positional-OSA patients had a significantly higher response rate to MAD compared to non-positional patients.
  • The results suggest that specific phenotypes, particularly REM-OSA, are less responsive to MAD treatment, highlighting key metrics like hypoxic burden and T90% that are useful in predicting treatment success in OSA patients.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the presence of Bisphenol A (BPA) in the saliva of patients using orthodontic appliances, given the health concerns surrounding BPA.
  • The research involved a systematic literature search, ultimately identifying and analyzing 8 relevant studies that included 238 patients, with the polycarbonate brackets showing the highest BPA release.
  • Findings revealed a significant initial increase in saliva BPA levels after bonding, but overall levels remained within safe limits, suggesting that orthodontic materials containing BPA are not a health risk.

This systematic review aims to investigate the microbial basis underlying the association between oral microbiota and colorectal cancer. A comprehensive search was conducted across four databases, encompassing potentially relevant studies published up to April 2024 related to the PECO question: "Is there a differentiation in oral microbial composition between adult patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer compared to healthy patients?". The Newcastle-Ottawa Scale was used to evaluate the quality of the studies included.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between a short lingual frenulum and the risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in children, suggesting that it may lead to abnormal facial development and increased airway resistance during sleep.
  • Conducted following PRISMA guidelines, the review analyzed 239 articles, ultimately synthesizing data from six studies, assessing their quality and conducting a meta-analysis.
  • Findings show a significant association between a short frenulum and OSA risk, with odds ratios indicating a higher likelihood of developing sleep apnea, while also highlighting the importance of considering other factors like tongue mobility and palate shape in future research.

Article Synopsis
  • The systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) aimed to compare the accuracy of different techniques for placing orthodontic mini-implants in the inter-radicular space, focusing on image-guided methods versus conventional techniques.
  • Eight randomized experimental trials were included, assessing techniques such as static computer-aided implant surgery, mixed reality, soft tissue static computer-aided implant surgery, and conventional free-hand technique.
  • The results indicated that static computer-aided methods (s-CAIS and ST s-CAIS) had significant advantages over the conventional method, while mixed reality did not show substantial differences; s-CAIS consistently had the best accuracy across various deviation metrics.

Background: The bone growth factor was a conditioning circumstance that limited the use of implants in children and adolescents, which, in cases of anodontia or severe oligodontia, forced pediatric dentists to abandon their use, leaving children with removable prostheses, at an age and in a social context with increasingly functional and esthetic demands. Purpose. The objective is to assess which variables influence the survival of dental implants in pediatric patients with severe agenesis.

  • Regenerative endodontic treatment (RET) is a promising method for treating immature necrotic teeth, but the impact of dental trauma on its effectiveness is uncertain.
  • A systematic review analyzed studies to assess RET’s success in managing traumatized necrotic immature teeth, finding that RET had high survival (93.8%) and success rates (88.3%).
  • The review also indicated that root maturation is less effective in traumatized teeth, emphasizing the need for more research comparing RET with other treatments like apexification.

Currently, concern about facial attractiveness is increasing, and this fact has led to orthodontics in adult patients being an increasingly demanded treatment, and with it, multi-disciplinary work. When it is caused by a vertical excess of the maxilla, the ideal solution is orthognathic surgery. However, in borderline cases and when the cause is hyperactivity of the upper lip levator muscle complex, alternative conservative solutions can be considered, such as the application of botulinum toxin A (BTX-A).

In this study, we compare the efficacy and diagnostic concordance of the ICDAS, the radiographic criterion and the instrument known as the DIAGNOdent fluorescence laser pen on occlusal caries lesions using a histological section as the gold standard. Of 100 teeth that did not present cavitated occlusal lesions or occlusal fillings, 80 were chosen through a randomization program and examined by two previously trained and calibrated researchers. Subsequently, the teeth were sectioned with a diamond disk and observed under an optical microscope.

Objective: The aim of the systematic review and meta-analysis carried out was to evaluate the effects of changing the prosthetic platform on peri-implant tissue after 1 year of prosthetic loading.

Material And Methods: In November 2020, an electronic search was carried out in PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus databases with the aim of obtaining all the randomized clinical trials that had been published in the preceding 10 years comparing the effects on the peri-implant tissue of implants with a prosthetic platform change and implants with a conventional platform for at least 1 year after prosthetic loading. Randomized model meta-analyses of the selected studies were performed to compare the results of the two implant groups in terms of vertical maintenance of bone level and increased probing depth.

Introduction: The objectives of this study were to analyze and quantify molar intrusion after the use of clear aligners and to analyze the relationship with other variables such as age, duration of treatment, and a series of cephalometric osseous and dental measurements at the start of treatment.

Methods: A retrospective descriptive-analytical study was designed with a sample of 58 patients aged 18-60 years who had undergone treatment with Invisalign. The cephalometric measurements were carried out after lateral x-rays were taken of the cranium; these were compared at the start (T0) and conclusion of treatment.
