Objective: This study investigated if the serratus anterior plane block (SAPB) within a multimodal analgesia scheme would reduce acute post-operative pain and intravenous opioid consumption in patients admitted to the intensive care unit after isolated minimally invasive mitral valve surgery.
Design: Retrospective study.
Setting: Patients were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the University Hospital of Siena (Italy).
A paradigmatic case is presented of subarachnoid hemorrhage as the initial sign of bacterial endocarditis on a mechanical cardiac prosthesis, in the absence of symptoms and echocardiographic evidence of infective endocarditis and vegetation. The presentation emphasizes the need to pursue a diagnostic workup for bacterial endocarditis whenever a patient with a mechanical prosthesis presents to the emergency department with focal neurologic signs. In addition, it highlights the potential use of second-level diagnostic tools to assess the extent of abscess presence and lesion extension to other cardiac structures for proper surgical planning.

Methods: The Surveymonkey platform was used to send a 28-items questionnaire focused on demographic, clinical and technical aspects related to SBRT for spinal oligometastases. All the AIRO members were invited to fill the questionnaire.
Background: SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines are highly immunogenic in people living with HIV (PLWH) on effective antiretroviral therapy (ART). However, whether viro-immunologic parameters or other factors affect immune responses to vaccination is debated. This study aimed to develop a machine learning-based model able to predict the humoral response to mRNA vaccines in PLWH and to assess the impact of demographic and clinical variables on antibody production over time.

Research Design And Methods: Here, we measured the immunogenicity and effectiveness in the real-world setting of the mRNA booster dose in 181 subjects who had completed primary vaccination with ChAdOx1, BNT162b2, or mRNA1273 vaccines (IMMUNO_COV study; protocol code 18,869). The spike-specific antibody and B cell responses were analyzed up to 6 months after boosting.
Aims: Myocardial work (MW) estimation by pressure-strain loops using speckle tracking echocardiography (STE) has shown to evaluate left ventricular (LV) contraction overcoming the load-dependency limit of LV global longitudinal strain (GLS). This has proved useful in hemodynamic variation settings e.g.

The aim of this study is to evaluate toxicity and efficacy of SABR in oligometastatic STS.
Materials And Methods: This is a retrospective multicenter study including adult patients affected by stage IV STS, treated with SABR for a maximum of 5 cranial or extracranial metastases in up to 3 different organs.

A giant coronary artery aneurysm is defined as an irreversible dilation that is 1.5-times more than the diameter of a healthy adjacent coronary artery. It is a rare disease with an incidence of 0.

Patients And Methods: A cohort of 288 LARC patients with cT3-T4, cN0-2, cM0 treated with IMRT-SIB and capecitabine from March 2013 to December 2019, followed by a total mesorectal excision (TME) or an organ-preserving strategy, was collected from a prospective database of 10 Italian institutions. A dose of 45 Gy in 25 fractions was prescribed to the tumor and elective nodes, while the SIB dose was prescribed according to the clinical practice of each institution on the gross tumor volume (GTV).
Aims: SCLC is the most aggressive lung cancer histology with a 5-year OS <10%. At the diagnosis, almost two-thirds of the SCLC an Extended Disease presentation. Two randomized studies (CASPIAN and ImPower133) demonstrated an OS improvement, when immunotherapy was prescribed as maintenance therapy after standard chemotherapy.

Materials And Methods: This was a multicentre retrospective study of a series of patients who received SBRT for spine oligometastases. The efficacy of SBRT was evaluated in terms of local control as the primary endpoint.
The term "oligometastasis" represents a relatively novel idea, which denotes a condition characterized by cancer dissemination with a limited number of lesions (usually fewer than five). The aim of the present study is to report a bibliometric analysis of the oligometastatic disease/state, incorporating all relevant studies on the topic for more than 20 years. The research strategy included at least one the terms "Oligmetastases", "Oligometastasis", "Oligometastatic", "Oligoprogression, "Oligoprogressive", "Oligorecurrent", or "Oligorecurrency" in the title, abstract, and/or keywords.

However, most of the research on vaccine immunogenicity has been centered on characterizing the antibody response, with limited exploration into the persistence of spike-specific memory B cells. Here we monitored the durability of the memory B cell response up to 9 months post-vaccination, and characterized the trajectory of spike-specific B cell phenotypes in healthy individuals who received two doses of the BNT162b2 vaccine.

The identification of reliable biomarkers able to predict oncological outcomes could help in the development of risk-adapted treatment strategies. It has been suggested that inflammation parameters may have a role in predicting tumor response to nCRT and survival outcomes and in rectal cancer, but no definitive conclusion can be drawn at present.

Aim: Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) showed increasing survival in oligometastatic patients. Few studies actually depicted oligometastatic disease (OMD) evolution and which patient will remain disease-free and which will rapidly develop a polymetastatic disease (PMD) after SABR. Therefore, apart from the number of active metastases, there are no clues on which proven factor should be considered for prescribing local treatment in OMD.

The purpose of this study was to report on the short-term outcomes of ReSARCh (Rectal Sparing Approach after preoperative Radio- and/or Chemotherapy) trial, which is a prospective, multicenter, observational trial that investigated the role of transanal local excision (LE) and watch-and-wait (WW) as integrated approaches after neoadjuvant therapy for rectal cancer.
Methods: Patients with mid-low rectal cancer who achieved mCR or cCR after neoadjuvant therapy and were fit for major surgery were enrolled.
Introduction: Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) has been shown to increase survival in oligometastatic disease, but local control of colorectal metastases remains poor. We aimed to identify potential predictive factors of SBRT response through a multicenter large retrospective database and to investigate the progression to the polymetastatic disease (PMD).
Material And Methods: The study involved 23 centers, and was approved by the Ethical Committee (Prot.
Objectives: Healthcare systems worldwide have been overburdened by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. Accordingly, hospitals had to implement strategies to profoundly reshape both non-COVID-19 medical care and surgical activities. Knowledge about the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cardiac surgery practice is pivotal.
