Splenic hydatid cyst abscess formation is extremely rare. We present a surgically proved case of abscessed hydatid cyst of the spleen with its appearance on sonography and computed tomography (CT). Although both imaging methods do not confirm a diagnosis of abscessed splenic hydatidosis, they are valuable examinations to support the diagnosis and define the extent of disease.

The usual method with [3H]thymidine yields results which are difficult to interpret. In our search for an alternative, we examined the feasibility of determining T lymphocyte activation by measuring interleukin-2 receptor (CD25) expression with flow cytometry.

Noninvasive cross-sectional imaging methods strongly correlated with the different gross pathologic types of gallbladder carcinoma. The most common observed type was a mass replacing the gallbladder (39%).

This isolated combination is an uncommon clinical condition with only 11 cases reported in the literature. The pathogenesis is characterized by aplasia-hypoplasia of the lymphatic vessels with consequent defective lymphatic drainage.

Trauma that produces recurrent dislocation of the peroneal tendons often is mistaken for an ankle sprain, or occurs in conjunction with an inversion ankle sprain. Self-diagnosis and self-treatment may preclude accurate diagnosis and management. The authors present a case that illustrates this scenario and review anatomical considerations, the mechanism of the injury, and therapeutic options.

The sudden presence of severe symptomatology (symptoms to mast cell mediators release), made us think of evaluating extracutaneous affection. Our results are consistent with recent reports in the medical literature.

Artifacts originated in the gallbladder wall in 37 cases and within the lumen in 5 cases. Eighteen patients had symptoms related to the hepatobiliary area.

They point out that the exact diagnosis of the mesothelial cyst and the diagnostic workup with the cystic lymphangioma can only be done with an exhaustive histological examination.

In three patients and six controls we isolated the PGE2 fraction from culture supernatants of purified monocytes (greater than 95%) incubated in medium containing (3H) arachidonic acid, using silicic acid columns. In two of three patients PGE2-fraction values (21.

The ultrasound and computed tomographic (CT) findings of inflammatory pseudotumor affecting the spleen in an asymptomatic patient are reported. The CT scanning revealed a partially calcified mass showing a nonhomogeneous enhancement after contrast injection.

We report a case in a twenty-four-year-old woman and present the different therapeutic alternatives. A review of all reported cases shows that except for children and male adults with benign prostatic hypertrophy, this is a chronic inflammatory process of unknown causation for which no specific therapy is available.

The previously frozen skin was removed by punch biopsies 3 days later to permit microscopic evaluation of the extent of necrosis. The histologic observations were related to the temperature and impedance measurements in an effort to determine the usefulness of the monitoring techniques in clinical cryosurgery.

The range of tissue temperatures produced was from -15 to -50 degrees C. The extent of destruction was evaluated by skin biopsies 3 days after cold injury.
