This study aimed to investigate the expression pattern of PD-1 on Tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) in early-stage NSCLC, and its potential role as prognostic biomarker.

The role of pathologists in the diagnosis of occupational lung diseases: an expert opinion of the European Society of Pathology Pulmonary Pathology Working Group.

Occupational lung/thoracic diseases are a major global public health issue. They comprise a diverse spectrum of health conditions with complex pathology, most of which arise following chronic heavy workplace exposures to various mineral dusts, metal fumes, or following inhaled organic particulate reactions. Many occupational lung diseases could become irreversible; thus accurate diagnosis is mandatory to minimize dust exposure and consequently reduce damage to the respiratory system.

Landscape of cancer biomarker testing in England following genomic services reconfiguration: insights from a nationwide pathologist survey.

Aims: Cancer diagnostics have been evolving rapidly. In England, the new National Health Service Genomic Medicine Service (GMS) provides centralised access to genomic testing via seven regional Genomic Laboratory Hubs. The PATHways survey aimed to capture pathologists' experience with current diagnostic pathways and opportunities for optimisation to ensure equitable and timely access to biomarker testing.

Effects of corticosteroids on COPD lung macrophage phenotype and function.

The numbers of macrophages are increased in the lungs of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. COPD lung macrophages have reduced ability to phagocytose microbes and efferocytose apoptotic cells. Inhaled corticosteroids (ICSs) are widely used anti-inflammatory drugs in COPD; however, their role beyond suppression of cytokine release has not been explored in COPD macrophages.

Analysis of ethylene-induced gene regulation during carposporogenesis in the red seaweed Grateloupia imbricata (Rhodophyta).

Ethylene favors carposporogenesis in the red seaweed Grateloupia imbricata. Analyses of cystocarp development in vitro in thalli treated with ethylene suggest an interconnection between polyamine and ethylene biosynthesis pathways. Yet, little is known about molecular mechanisms underlying carposporogenesis.

Molecular mechanisms underlying Grateloupia imbricata (Rhodophyta) carposporogenesis induced by methyl jasmonate.

When applied in vitro, methyl jasmonate is sensed by the red seaweed Grateloupia imbricate, substantially and visually affecting its carposporogenesis. However, although there is some understanding of the morphological changes induced by methyl jasmonate in vitro, little is known about the genes that are involved in red seaweed carposporogenesis and how their protein products act. For the work reported herein, the expression of genes in red seaweed that encode enzymes involved in the synthesis of methyl jasmonate (jasmonic acid carboxyl methyl transferase and a putative methyl transferase) was monitored.

In silico characterization of DNA motifs associated with the differential expression of the ornithine decarboxylase gene during in vitro cystocarp development in the red seaweed Grateloupia imbricata.

To gain a better understanding of the regulatory mechanism(s) modulating expression of the ornithine decarboxylase gene ODC during cystocarp development in the red seaweed Grateloupia imbricata, DNA motifs found in the 5'-upstream region of the gene were identified by in silico analysis. In addition, when infertile G. imbricata thalli were treated with ethylene, methyl jasmonate, or light as an elicitor of cystocarp development, different ODC expression patterns were observed.

[Identification of simple safe practices in a primary care area].

Objectives: To assess the safe practices (SP) prepared by the Health Risk Management Functional Unit (UFGRS), according to their complexity of introduction and the impact on patient safety, and to identify simple SP.

Material And Methods: A number of important SP have been prepared by the UFGRS of Madrid Health Area 4 Primary Care (PC). They were subsequently assessed according to their complexity of introduction and their potential impact on patient safety, simple SP (SSP) for the prevention of adverse events, low complexity of introduction and impact on patient safety.

[Intrapulmonary solitary fibrous tumor associated with hemoptysis: a case report].

Intrapulmonary solitary fibrous tumor is an extremely rare mesenchymal neoplasm about which very few references can be found in the literature. We present the case of a young woman with hemoptysis in whom plain-film chest radiographs showed a pulmonary mass. Contrast-enhanced MDCT showed a solid lung tumor with well-defined margins and heterogeneous enhancement.

[Variability in primary care drug prescription in 2003 in Castile-la Mancha, Spain].

Background: Detecting variability in clinical practice is important, given that it may entail the underuse or overuse of resources. This study was aimed at studying the variability of drug prescription in Primary Care in Castile-La Mancha in terms of certain sociosanitary characteristics of each health district.

Methods: The prescribing of various therapeutic groups in 2003 was reviewed in 180 health districts, the following variables having been gathered: number of packages having been prescribed per 100 inhabitants, percentage of inhabitants over age 65 in the district, visit rate (visits/1,000 inhabitants), physicians/1,000 inhabitants and distance to the reference hospital.
