Description of new species of Pseudogaurax Malloch (Diptera: Chloropidae) from Brazil, with notes on natural history.

Pseudogaurax Malloch is a genus of Chloropidae with about 70 described species found in all biogeographic regions, but several additional undescribed species are known. In this study we describe six new species from Brazil: Pseudogaurax alvinae sp. nov.

Estrogen deficiency is one of several contributing factors to catabolic changes in bone surrounding dental implants, impairing bone repair in defects requiring bone regeneration. Functionalizing bone substitutes is an alternative approach among various strategies to address this challenge. In this study, the aim was to evaluate the effect of functionalizing deproteinized bovine bone (Bio-Oss, BO) with genistein via sonication on peri-implant bone defects in ovariectomized rats.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNP) have gained significant attention due to their unique pharmacological properties. These nanoparticles have been found to possess antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities, making them promising candidates for various medical applications. The coating characteristics of oxcarbazepine (OXC), a drug used in epilepsy treatment, on the AgNP icosahedral clusters were investigated using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and noncovalent interactions (NCI) and Independent Gradient Model (IGM) analysis.

Nickel-Catalyzed Photoredox Allenylation of Alkyl Halides.

We report a dual Ni/photoredox-catalyzed cross-coupling method for propargyl carbonates and nonactivated alkyl bromides, facilitating the synthesis of a variety of substituted allenes under mild and practical conditions. Mechanistically, the reaction integrates Ni-catalyzed activation of the propargyl electrophile via S' oxidative addition at Ni(I) with silyl radical-induced activation of the alkyl halide through halogen-atom transfer. This methodology provides a gentle approach for introducing allenyl groups into complex halogenated aliphatic molecules, offering further opportunities for derivatization.

Global mapping survey research on physiotherapeutic interventions for osteoarthritis: a scoping review protocol.

Introduction: Physiotherapists provide non-pharmacological conservative treatment for osteoarthritis (OA) using a wide spectrum of interventions. Previous surveys have identified global physiotherapy OA management practices. However, no review to date summarises the scope and findings of these studies.

Relationship among Dietary Intake of Vitamin E, Lipid Peroxidation Markers, and C-Reactive Protein in Flu-Like Patients Diagnosed with COVID-19.

Objective: This research aimed to assess the intake of vitamin E and its relationship with lipid peroxidation markers and C-reactive protein levels in patients with flu symptoms and COVID-19 diagnosis.

Methods: A cross-sectional study with 121 patients of both sexes assisted at two basic health units in the city of Teresina, Piauí, with COVID-19 diagnosis confirmed through real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, was performed between the 3 and 7 days of flu symptoms. The global nutritional status and the measurement of waist circumference were assessed according to the World Health Organization recommendations.

Smart Delivery of Biomolecules Interfering with Peri-Implant Repair in Osteoporotic Rats.

Bisphosphonates are widely used for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis; however, they cause several long-term side effects, necessitating the investigation of local ways to improve osseointegration in compromised bone tissue. The purpose of this study was to evaluate peri-implant bone repair using implants functionalized with zoledronic acid alone (OVX ZOL group, n = 11), zoledronic acid + teriparatide (OVX ZOL + TERI group, n = 11), and zoledronic acid + ruterpy (OVX ZOL + TERPY group, n = 11) compared to the control group (OVX CONV, n = 11). Analyses included computer-assisted microtomography, qualitative histologic analysis, and real-time PCR analysis.

Combination of a Synthetic Bioceramic Associated with a Polydioxanone-Based Membrane as an Alternative to Autogenous Bone Grafting.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the repair process in rat calvaria filled with synthetic biphasic bioceramics (Plenum Osshp-70:30, HA:βTCP) or autogenous bone, covered with a polydioxanone membrane (PDO). A total of 48 rats were divided into two groups ( = 24): particulate autogenous bone + Plenum Guide (AUTOPT+PG) or Plenum Osshp + Plenum Guide (PO+PG). A defect was created in the calvaria, filled with the grafts, and covered with a PDO membrane, and euthanasia took place at 7, 30, and 60 days.

Advanced therapies targeting renal regeneration have the potential to alleviate the clinical and financial burdens associated with kidney disease. Metastatic cutaneous myxosarcoma in an adult horse.

A 25-year-old mixed-breed equine with separate nodular cutaneous lesions in the right thoracic limb (RTL) and right ventral abdominal region was admitted to a Veterinary Hospital in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. Fine-needle aspiration cytology was performed on the RTL lesion and superficial cervical lymph node, and the results were suggestive of a malignant neoplasm known as myxosarcoma. Due to the unfavorable prognosis, the animal was euthanized.

However, for professionals to consolidate this practice, the contact with EBP must begin at the university. In this study, we aimed to map and analyze the distribution of EBP courses and their characteristics in undergraduate physiotherapy programs in Brazil.

The Lotka-Volterra competition model (LVCM) is a fundamental tool for ecology, widely used to represent complex communities. The Allee effect (AE) is a phenomenon in which there is a positive correlation between population density and fitness, at low population densities. However, the interplay between the LVCM and AE has been seldom analyzed in multispecies models.

Extensive gene loss parallels kidney aglomerulism in Syngnathidae.

The eccentric seahorses, seadragons, pipehorses and pipefishes (Syngnathidae) have an aglomerular kidney. Here, we show that nephron genes conserved in Bilateria are secondarily eroded/deleted in Syngnathidae genomes. A transcriptome enrichment analysis suggests the predominance of excretion processes in the Syngnathidae kidney.

Analysis of temperature effect in the CO absorption using a deep eutectic solvent: An in silico approach.

The excess level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has contributed a lot to global warming, occasioning several damages to the planet. Therefore, it is urgent to find ways to capture this gas. Then, the present work analyzed the temperature effect in CO absorption through deep eutectic solvents (DESs) based on urea and choline chloride using an in silico approach.

Degradation of xanthene-based dyes by photoactivated persulfate: experimental and computational studies.

Dyes are naked-eye detectable even at low concentration levels and can cause environmental damage when released into aquatic effluents; therefore, methods for removing the residual color from the aquatic media are always a current issue. In this paper, degradation of three xanthene dyes, Rhodamine B, Eosin Y, and Sodium Fluorescein, using photoactivated persulfate was evaluated at pH 3.0 and 11.

A Case of Febrile Polyphagia With an Underlying Paraneoplastic Limbic Encephalitis.

A 57-year-old female with a history of malignant mixed Müllerian tumors of the uterus and ovaries developed a fever of unknown origin and neuropsychiatric symptoms. Her EEG showed slow activity in the left temporal region, and brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed limbic encephalitis, leading to the diagnosis of classic paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis (PLE). During our investigation into the underlying cause of the patient's condition, we conducted a PET-CT scan, which revealed the presence of several hypermetabolic lymph nodes.

Malignant Peritoneal Mesothelioma: A Case Report.

Malignant peritoneal mesothelioma (MPM) is a rare tumor of the serous membranes of the peritoneum and has been linked to exposure to asbestos and other risk factors. Mimicking these properties remains a challenge to provide realistic environments for cells.
