Baru (Dipteryx alata Vogel), a fruit native to the Brazilian Cerrado, has gained scientific interest due to its nutritional potential and commercial value. Its edible seed, of high commercial value, represents around 5 % of the fruit. On the other hand, its pulp, a byproduct of the baru processing industry, is normally discarded, generating a huge volume of waste with reported antioxidant properties.

The characterization of these structures requires an analysis of their constituents and their spatial configuration. Examples can be found in systems as diverse as galaxies, alloys, living tissues, cells, and even nanoparticles.

Essential tremor (ET) is identified as the most prevalent movement disorder, primarily characterized by tremors in both upper extremities. The spectrum of surgical options for ET includes gamma knife radiosurgery (GKRS) and other stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) modalities. Despite the limitations of these options, SRS is deemed an essential and indispensable approach.

Since the prior meta-analysis new randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have been published. This meta-analysis aimed to update the current knowledge on the efficacy of tirofiban for patients with AIS not submitted to reperfusion therapies.

Methods And Materials: Resin composite blocks (Z250XT/3M ESPE) were cemented to bovine enamel (7 × 2.5 × 2 mm) using preheated microhybrid resin composites: (1) Filtek Z100 (3M ESPE) (Z100); (2) Gradia Direct X (GC America) (GDX); and (3) Light-cured resin cement RelyX Veneer (3M ESPE) (RXV) (n=21).
Background: Uroflowmetry is a non-invasive examination considered as a first-line assessment for children with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Currently, the performance of two uroflowmetry tests is recommended by ICCS for all patients with LUTS. This study aims to evaluate the differences between two uroflowmetry tests in children with lower urinary tract symptoms and their impact on the patient's diagnostic workup and clinical outcome.

During the harvest and processing of cocoa beans, they are subjected to fermentation either by microorganisms present in the environment (spontaneous fermentation) or the addition of starter cultures, with different strains directly contributing distinct flavor and color characteristics to the beans. In addition to fungi and bacteria, viruses are ubiquitous and can affect the quality of the fermentation process by infecting fermenting organisms, destabilizing microbial diversity, and consequently affecting fermentation quality.

We systematically searched PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane Library for randomized controlled trials (RCT) comparing DOACs versus aspirin in patients with ESUS. Risk ratios (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were computed for binary endpoints.

Steud leaf extract, and their impact on maternal reproductive and fetal development in diabetic rats. For this, adult female Wistar rats (100 days of life) received streptozotocin (40 mg/Kg, intraperitoneal) for induction of diabetes, were mated and distributed into four groups: Nondiabetic; Nondiabetic given B.

Another approach to senotherapeutics consists of controlling inflammation related to cellular senescence or "inflammaging", which participates, among other processes, in establishing pulmonary fibrosis. We evaluate whether polyphenols such as caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, epicatechin, gallic acid, quercetin, or resveratrol combined with different senotherapeutics such as metformin or rapamycin, and antifibrotic drugs such as nintedanib or pirfenidone, could present beneficial actions in an in vitro model of senescent MRC-5 lung fibroblasts.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAcute lymphoblastic leukaemia is currently treated with bacterial L-asparaginase; however, its side effects raise the need for the development of improved and efficient novel enzymes. Previously, we obtained low anti-asparaginase antibody production and high serum enzyme half-life in mice treated with the P40S/S206C mutant; however, its specific activity was significantly reduced. Thus, our aim was to test single mutants, S206C and P40S, through in vitro and in vivo assays.

Furthermore, this amino acid has an important role in regulating several metabolic pathways, such as tricarboxylic acid cycle and the urea cycle. When compared to normal cells, tumor cells typically present a higher demand for asparagine, making it a compelling target for therapy.

Neuroendoscopy (NE) surgery emerged as a promising technique for the treatment of spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). A previous meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) analyzed the efficacy and safety of NE compared to craniotomy, but NE did not present a significant improvement in functional outcomes. However, a new study provided an opportunity to update the current knowledge.

Self-adhesive resin cements arose out of the need for technical simplification of this procedure to reduce the risk of operative errors, with good acceptance by clinicians. How the failure rate of indirect single-tooth restorations cemented with self-adhesive resin cements compares with the failure rate of those cemented conventionally is unclear.

Topical sunscreens are used to avoid the effect of UV irradiation, but the topical application of DNA repair enzymes, such as photolyase, can provide active photoprotection by DNA recovery. Here we produced a recombinant Thermus thermophilus photolyase expressed in Escherichia coli, evaluated the kinetic parameters of bacterial growth and the kinetics and stability of the enzyme.
