The management of advanced endometrial cancer (EC) has changed in the last few years due to the introduction of a new molecular classification and the approval of immunotherapy. For a long time, carboplatin plus paclitaxel was considered the standard treatment for first-line advanced EC, since the approval of the combination of chemotherapy plus immunotherapy. For patients with recurrent EC, with previous platinum-based chemotherapy, single-agent immunotherapy or in combination with tyrosine-kinase inhibitor (TKI) has been approved according to mismatch repair status.

Article Synopsis
  • * Local treatment options like stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) may help control oligoprogressive disease without modifying systemic treatments, but evidence, mostly from retrospective studies, is limited.
  • * The CURB trial indicated no survival benefit for local treatment in breast cancer patients; however, local treatment is still used to delay more toxic systemic therapies, warranting further exploration of who may benefit and potential risks involved.

Introduction: The therapeutic scenario of metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC) has dramatically changed in recent years, with the approval of new-generation Androgen Receptor Signaling Inhibitors (ARSIs), in combination with the androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), which was the previous standard of care. Despite showing a similar clinical efficacy, ARSIs, all of which are administered orally, are different in terms of pharmacokinetic and drug-drug interactions (DDIs).

Areas Covered: This review covers the main pharmacokinetic characteristics of ARSIs that have been approved for the first-line therapy of mHSPC patients, underlying the differences among these molecules and focusing on the known or possible interactions with other drugs.

Background And Aims: Perioperative treatment is currently the gold standard approach in Europe for locally advanced gastric cancer (GC). Unfortunately, the phenomenon of patients dropping out of treatment has been frequently observed. The primary aims of this study were to verify if routine blood parameters, inflammatory response markers, sarcopenia, and the depletion of adipose tissues were associated with compliance to neoadjuvant/perioperative chemotherapy.

3D imaging is a powerful tool of high resolution and non-destructive imaging technology for the study of ancient weapons and military technology, which reveals the original microstructures and corrosion patterns that threaten these artefacts. Here we report quantitative analysis of the 3D distribution and the orientation of fractures, and uncorroded metal particles within a wrought iron javelin unearthed at the Phoenician-Punic site of Motya, Italy. The study aimed to gain a better understanding of the relationship between corrosion and local stresses within the artifact and to evaluate its manufacturing technology, as well as the effects of post-treatment with Paraloid B72 on concretion and mineralized layers.

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare and life-threatening condition characterized by uncontrolled activation of the immune system. HLH is a reactive mononuclear phagocytic response that occurs in association with a constellation of conditions such as malignancies and infections. The clinical diagnosis of HLH remains challenging because HLH can present with symptoms that significantly overlap with other causes of cytopenia, such as sepsis, autoimmune diseases, hematological cancers, and multiorgan failure.

Spontaneous pneumothorax (PNX) is an infrequent manifestation of primary lung cancer, soft tissue sarcoma and metastasis. There are no easily accessible data in the literature regarding the correlation between PNX and antibiotics, whereas cases of PNX following chemotherapy have been observed. Only 1-10% of treatment-related adverse events are estimated to be reported to the Food and Drug Administration.

Drug efflux by P-glycoprotein (P-gp, ABCB1) is considered as a major obstacle for brain drug delivery for small molecules. P-gp-expressing cell monolayers are used for screening of new drug candidates during early states of drug development. It is, however, uncertain how well the in vitro studies can predict the in vivo P-gp mediated efflux at the blood-brain barrier (BBB).

Collective movement of social groups requires coordination between individuals. When cohesion is imperative, consensus must be reached, and specific individuals may exert disproportionate influence during decision-making. Animals living in multi-level societies, however, often split into consistent social subunits during travel, which may impact group coordination processes.

The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) will be a powerful tool for a variety of physics topics. The high-intensity proton beams provide a large neutrino flux, sampled by a near detector system consisting of a combination of capable precision detectors, and by the massive far detector system located deep underground. This configuration sets up DUNE as a machine for discovery, as it enables opportunities not only to perform precision neutrino measurements that may uncover deviations from the present three-flavor mixing paradigm, but also to discover new particles and unveil new interactions and symmetries beyond those predicted in the Standard Model (SM).

We aim at modeling the main crustal and thermal interfaces of Sicily (Italy), a key area for understanding the geological complexity at the collisional boundary between the African and European plates. To this end, we analyze the gravity and magnetic fields, integrated with information from well logs, geology, heat flow, and seismic data. In order to make the most accurate description of the crustal structure of the area, we modeled with different methodologies the carbonate and crystalline top surfaces, as well as the Moho and the Curie isotherm surface.

Two separate goals should be jointly pursued in wastewater treatment: nutrient removal and energy conservation. An efficient controller performance should cope with process uncertainties, seasonal variations and process nonlinearities. This paper describes the design and testing of a model predictive controller (MPC) based on neuro-fuzzy techniques that is capable of estimating the main process variables and providing the right amount of aeration to achieve an efficient and economical operation.

The ^{12}C+^{12}C fusion reaction plays a critical role in the evolution of massive stars and also strongly impacts various explosive astrophysical scenarios. The presence of resonances in this reaction at energies around and below the Coulomb barrier makes it impossible to carry out a simple extrapolation down to the Gamow window-the energy regime relevant to carbon burning in massive stars. The ^{12}C+^{12}C system forms a unique laboratory for challenging the contemporary picture of deep sub-barrier fusion (possible sub-barrier hindrance) and its interplay with nuclear structure (sub-barrier resonances).

Volume of distribution (Vd ) is a measure of how effectively a drug molecule is distributed throughout the body. Along with the clearance, it determines the half-life and therefore the drug dosing interval. A number of different pre-clinical approaches are available to predict the Vd in human including quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) models.

The origin of the brilliant near angle-independent coloration of the weevil Eupholus chevrolati was investigated by a combination of optical and electron microscopy tools, photonic band structure calculations, and color mixing analysis. Optical microscopy and scanning micro-spectroscopy revealed the presence of micrometer-sized red, yellow, green, and blue reflective pixels covering the entire exoskeleton of the weevil. Scanning electron microscopy in combination with focused ion beam milling showed that each micro-pixel consisted of a diamond-based photonic crystal structure and the different reflective colors were the result of different orientations of the photonic crystal.

The behaviour of a granular material is mainly dependent on its frictional properties, angle of internal friction, and cohesion, which, together with material density, are the key factors to be considered during the scaling procedure of analogue models. The frictional properties of a granular material are usually investigated by means of technical instruments such as a Hubbert-type apparatus and ring shear testers, which allow for investigating the response of the tested material to a wide range of applied stresses. Here we explore the possibility to determine material properties by means of different empirical methods applied to mixtures of quartz and K-feldspar sand.

Absolute cross sections for isotopically identified products formed in multinucleon transfer in the (136)Xe+(198)Pt system at ∼8  MeV/nucleon are reported. The isotopic distributions obtained using a large acceptance spectrometer demonstrated the production of the "hard-to-reach" neutron-rich isotopes for Z<78 around the N=126 shell closure far from stability. The main contribution to the formation of these exotic nuclei is shown to arise in collisions with a small kinetic energy dissipation.
