Notes on the taxonomy of some "Astaena" species described by Burmeister (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae).

In the framework of the taxonomic revision of South American Sericini (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae), we examined the type specimens of the species described by Burmeister (1855) in the genus Astaena Erichson, 1847. A few taxa resulted to not belong to the South American Sericini fauna, either due to different geographical provenience or due to incorrect systematical placement within Sericini. Two new combinations and one new synonymy are proposed: Neoserica pubescens (Burmeister, 1855), new combination (= Neoserica subsetosa Ahrens Fabrizi, 2016: 121, new synonymy) and Manonychus robustus (Burmeister, 1855), new combination.

On the enigmatic genus Oectropsis Blanchard (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, Lamiinae): tribal allocation, synonymy, and new species.

The species of the genus Oectropsis Blanchard, 1851 (Cerambycidae, Lamiinae) are exclusively distributed west of the central Andes region (Chile) and were probably isolated due to phenomena caused by the Andes Mountains. Recent taxonomic revisions of the genus revealed that the species do not have the main features of Acanthocinini, the tribe in which this genus is currently allocated. Instead, they share characteristics with Pogonocherini, especially Pogonocherus Dejean, 1821, whose majority of species are distributed in North America.

Synonymies, transferences and redescriptions in Neotropical Acanthocinini (Coleoptera, Cerambycidae, Lamiinae).

Examining dynamic visual scene displays: implications for arranging and teaching symbol selection.

Purpose: Evidence supports using visual scene displays (VSDs) with young children using speech-generating devices. This study examined initial and subsequent performance during VSD use by children age 24-27 and 33-36 months to explore child characteristics that may relate to navigational skill differences.

Method: Children located 9 vocabulary items using a dynamic VSD.

Task engagement and escape maintained challenging behavior: differential effects of general and explicit cues when implementing a signaled delay in the delivery of reinforcement.

This study was designed to evaluate the effects of explicit and general delay cues when implementing a tolerance for a delay in the delivery of a reinforcement procedure to increase task engagement and decrease escape maintained challenging behavior. Two preschool children with autism participated in an alternating treatments design with changing criterions for task engagement. For both children, descriptive and experimental analyses verified that the challenging behavior functioned to escape instructional task demands.

Long-term outcome of pediatric renal transplantation: the Norwegian experience in three eras 1970-2006.

During the years 1970-2006, 251 renal transplantations were performed in 178 children in Norway. The proportion of LD was 84%. Transplantations were performed preemptively in 52%.

[Protein-creatinine ratio--a simple method for proteinuria assessment in clinical practice].

Background: Proteinuria is an indicator of renal disease. Measurement of protein excretion is important for diagnosis and follow-up of renal disease, but measuring 24-hour protein excretion is a cumbersome procedure.

Material And Methods: A simplified validated method for measuring excretion is obtained by measuring urine protein/creatinine concentration in a spot urine sample.

[Organ transplantation in children].

Over a period of close to 30 years, children in Norway with organ failure have been offered the option of a transplanted organ. Kidney transplantations have been performed since 1971, heart and liver transplantations since 1983, when ciclosporin was introduced. We present a review of somatic aspects on kidney transplantation in children, with special emphasis on 136 renal transplantations in 107 Norwegian children, eight of whom have died.

[Gastroenteritis in children. Peroral rehydration, intravenous fluid therapy and nutrition].

In pediatrics, oral rehydration treatment is increasingly used in the management of gastroenteritis, and based on third world experiences, it is becoming used also in hospitals in western countries. In this paper, the advantages, limitations and practical use of oral rehydration treatment are discussed. Clinical examination of dehydrated children is described, and guidelines are given for intravenous fluid treatment.

Autonomous hyperparathyroidism in X-linked hypophosphataemia.

Four patients with familial hypophosphataemic rickets developed significant hypercalcaemia which persisted after discontinuation of vitamin D therapy. They had increased PTH levels and were operated for hyperparathyroidism at the ages of 18, 20, 24 and 45 years, respectively. Three of the patients had previously received phosphate treatment and one patient developed hyperparathyroidism 7 years after treatment with calcitriol.

[Glutaric aciduria type I].

Glutaric aciduria type I is a congenital metabolic disease caused by an enzymatic defect in the degradation of the amino acids lysine and tryptophane. This article presents five Norwegian patients with this condition. Early clinical features may be similar to those of encephalitis.

The clearance of iohexol as a measure of the glomerular filtration rate in children with chronic renal failure.

The plasma clearances of technetium-99m-labelled DTPA ([99Tcm]-DTPA) and the non-ionic contrast medium iohexol were estimated in 11 children with chronic renal failure for determination of the glomerular filtration rate (GFR). Equal values were obtained with the two substances provided plasma sampling was simultaneous, but when plasma was sampled within 3.5 h after injection of iohexol and [99Tcm]-DTPA the GFR was overestimated by more than 50%.

A single plasma sample method for estimation of the glomerular filtration rate in infants and children using iohexol, II: Establishment of the optimal plasma sampling time and a comparison with the 99Tcm-DTPA method.

The glomerular filtration rate (GFR) can be determined from the plasma disappearance rate of the non-ionic contrast medium iohexol. A preceding study established the empirical formulae enabling the development of a single plasma sample method for estimation of GFR in infants and children. In the present study the validity of these empirical formulae was confirmed in examinations in 143 patients.
