Navigating Nutrition Inequities: BIPOC Maternal Health and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC)'s Fruit and Vegetable Voucher.

Introduction: The proposal to administer cuts for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) could create deficiencies in nutrition for already food insecure, low-income Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color (BIPOC) pregnant, postpartum women, and children. WIC is a US Department of Agriculturefunded nutritional program for women, infants, and children. The current proposal is to cut the funding by $800 million for the 2024 fiscal year, affecting 75% of its low-income recipients and predominantly BIPOC.

Small bowel obstruction secondary to a plastic bezoar.

We present a case of a small bowel obstruction secondary to a rare plastic bezoar. A man in their early 20s with autism and an intellectual disability presented with symptoms of small bowel obstruction. CT revealed very subtle signs and, despite passage of gastrografin, ongoing clinical suspicion led to operative management which confirmed the diagnoses of plastic bezoar.

A natural history museum visitor survey of perception, attitude and knowledge (PAK) of microbes and antibiotics.

A kiosk-based survey at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City in 2016-2018 allowed us to assess public knowledge of antibiotics and public attitudes toward microbes in museum goers. Over 22,000 visitors from 172 countries and territories answered several carefully designed questions about microbes and antibiotics. These visitors also entered age, gender, and country demographic data that allowed for stratification along these demographic and geographic divisions.

The relationship between anxiety, depression, and subtypes of negative auditory verbal hallucination (AVH) content in affective and non-affective psychosis.

The content of AVHs is a major predictor of distress. Although the relationship between mood and AVH content is considered of diagnostic relevance, research investigating the role of depression and anxiety in AVH content remains limited. This study investigated subtypes of negative AVH content, comprising critical, threatening, and self-harm commands in affective and non-affective psychosis.

Childhood trauma, attachment and negative schemas in relation to negative auditory verbal hallucination (AVH) content.

Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVHs, or hearing voices) are particularly characterized by negative content such as criticism and threats. The extent of negative content is a major predictor of distress, yet there is limited research on what contributes to the content of AVHs. The current study aimed to assess the relationships between childhood trauma, attachment styles (anxious and avoidant) and negative self schemas as plausible mechanisms underlying negative AVH content.

Understanding the role of self in auditory verbal hallucinations using a self-discrepancy paradigm.

Objective: Negative auditory verbal hallucination (AVH) content is a major predictor of distress and typically occurs more frequently than positive or neutral content. Recent research has found that negative views of self are associated with the negative content of AVHs. However, research investigating the role of self in AVH content is in its infancy and warrants further study.

Does mindfulness help people adapt to the experience of hearing voices?

Mindfulness-based interventions show promise in the treatment of psychotic symptoms. From a theoretical perspective, there may be several benefits of mindfulness for individuals who experience hearing voices. Related cross-sectional findings suggest mindfulness may protect against distress, disruption, negative beliefs, dysfunctional relational style and responding, and mood symptoms for individuals who hear voices.
