Since antiretroviral drugs may also inhibit hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication, analyzing the impact of ART on management of hepatitis B in this population is important.
Objective: To assess HBV viremia among HIV/HBV coinfected individuals on ART and its associated factors.
Objective: The aim of this study was to study the effect of ω-3 supplementation on the nutritional status and the immune and inflammatory profiles of patients with gastric cancer during antineoplastic pretreatment.
Methods: This was a randomized, open, controlled longitudinal study with intervention in outpatient patients with gastric cancer. Sixty-eight patients were randomized into two groups and received either a formula enriched with ω-3 (intervention group [IG]) or standard formula without ω-3 (control group) for 30 d consecutively.
The study analyzed the use of the Paideia Method for training professionals that use matrix support in Curitiba (Paraná State), Uberlândia (Minas Gerais State), and Campinas (São Paulo State), Brazil. An 18-month training process (Specialization Course) was developed for this purpose with matrix support professionals. This was a qualitative study inspired by action-based research, research-intervention, and evaluation by triangulation of methods.

The study was conducted with 53 patients with oral cavity cancer in antineoplastic pretreatment who were randomized into two groups: the control group received a powdered supplement without EPA during 4 wk and the intervention group received a liquid supplement enriched with EPA (2 g/day) during the same period. In the baseline and after 4 wk of supplementation, serum concentrations of albumin, prealbumin, C-reactive protein (CRP), and interleukin-6 (IL-6) were measured.

In this study, a quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) for the analysis of HCV RNA was developed and adapted for use with dried blood spot (DBS) samples. A qPCR for HCV 5'NCR, an internal control and a calibration curve were developed, and the sensitivity, specificity and dynamic range of amplification were evaluated using a panel of viruses.

Worldwide, the greatest risk factors for HCC are the infections caused by hepatitis B and C viruses, which increase the risk of developing the disease by about 20 times. The standard treatment in the early stages of the disease, such as surgical resection, local ablation and liver transplantation, are able to cure a proportion of patients, but most cases of HCC present in advanced stages, precluding the use of such treatments with curative intent.
