NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES: A dataset of occurrence and abundance of freshwater fishes in the Neotropics.

The Neotropical region hosts 4225 freshwater fish species, ranking first among the world's most diverse regions for freshwater fishes. Our NEOTROPICAL FRESHWATER FISHES data set is the first to produce a large-scale Neotropical freshwater fish inventory, covering the entire Neotropical region from Mexico and the Caribbean in the north to the southern limits in Argentina, Paraguay, Chile, and Uruguay. We compiled 185,787 distribution records, with unique georeferenced coordinates, for the 4225 species, represented by occurrence and abundance data.

Management of Field-Evolved Resistance to Bt Maize in Argentina: A Multi-Institutional Approach.

Evolution of resistance to control measures in insect populations is a natural process, and management practices are intended to delay or mitigate resistance when it occurs. During the 2012/13 season the first reports of unexpected damage by on some Bt maize hybrids occurred in the northeast of San Luis province, Argentina. The affected Bt technologies were Herculex I® (HX-TC1507) and VT3PRO® (MON 89034 × MON 88017).

Circadian rhythm of hospital deaths: comparison between intensive care unit and non-intensive care unit.

Objective: The demonstration that cardiovascular mortality follows a circadian rhythm led us to verify whether patients dying at the intensive unit care (ICU) and at the non-intensive unit care (non-ICU) follow that rhythm.

Methods: All hospital's deaths occurring between January 1, 2006 and July 31, 2010 were analyzed. The circadian pattern of the time of death was analyzed in twelve 2 hour intervals.

Evidence of healthcare quality improvement in acute myocardial infarction.

Background: The monitoring of healthcare quality indicators (HCQI) is a process of utmost importance in patient healthcare services.

Objective: To evaluate whether the monitoring of HCQI and the root-cause analysis improve the healthcare quality in acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

Methods: A cross-sectional and comparative analysis of HCQI was performed in patients with AMI in the years 2006 and 2007.

Background: Quality indicators (QI) for cardiac surgery are important instruments for measuring healthcare quality in hospital centers and allow comparison with high-quality healthcare centers.

Objective: To evaluate QIs in isolated myocardial revascularization procedures (CABG) performed at a tertiary cardiology center.

Methods: One hundred and forty-four consecutive patients who had undergone isolated CABG were evaluated between October 2005 and March 2007.
