Thyroid cancer in patients with acromegaly: a case-control study.

Several studies have associated acromegaly with an increased risk of benign and malignant tumors. While simple and multinodular goiters are common findings in acromegaly, the prevalence of thyroid cancer is uncertain. The objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of thyroid cancer in a series of acromegalic patients from three hospitals in northeast of Brazil.

[Influence of serum IGF-I and testosterone on lipid and glycemic profile in acromegalic men].

Objectives: To evaluate the influence of IGF-I and testosterone on the lipid profile and glycemia in acromegalic men.

Methods: Fifteen acromegalic men were studied.

Results: The hypogonadic patients presented lower HDL-c and higher tryglicerides, LDL-c, glycemia, GH and IGF-I.

Absence of periodontitis in acromegalic patients.

Acromegaly is a metabolic disorder caused by increased growth hormone (GH) secretion. Common oral features are prognatism, increased interdental spaces, macroglosia, and dental mobility. However, not much is known about the periodontal status of acromegalics.
